Beware Imitation

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Ekachakra Dham, morning class
15 February 2019, part 5

Srila Narottam Das Thakur explained the glories of Sriman Nityananda Prabhu very nicely, and we sing about it in the kirtan every day. Also, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur told very nicely that if we follow Srila Narottam Das Thakur, we can get some understanding about the glories of Sriman Nityananda Prabhu.

There is anusaran and anukaran. If you follow what Gurudev told you, this is anusaran, and if you want to do the same pastime of Krishna showed, this is anukaran, imitation.

So, if you follow Narottam Das Thakur's advice, this is good, but if you think you want to do what Narottam Das Thakur did, if you want to become Narottam, then it is a very big problem. Do not imitate Nityananda Prabhu.

We sing also,

'আমি ত' বৈষ্ণব', এ বুদ্ধি হইলে
অমানী না হ'ব আমি ।
প্রতস্ঠাশা আসি', হৃদয় দূষিবে
হইব নিরয়গামী

"ami ta' vaisnava," e-buddhi ha-ile,
amani na ha'ba ami
pratisthasa asi', hrdaya dusibe,
ha-iba niraya-gami

"If I think, 'I am a Vaishnav,' then I will never stop expecting honour from others (I will never become void of the desire for honour). If desire for name and fame pollutes my heart, I will go to hell."

(Kalyan-kalpataru, Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur)

If I think that I have become a Vaishnav, it means I desire pratistha, name and fame—if such desire comes, we will have to go to hell (niraya-gami).

Sannyas Lila:
Roaming the Land
'Mahaprabhu would go in a zigzag way—sometimes He went to the East, sometimes to the West, and the devotees followed Him not knowing where He was going...'

Ki jani ki bale
'O Lord! You are merciful. This is my sole hope. There is no one who needs Your mercy more than I. Certainly You will dispel all my fear.'
কি জানি কি বলে

When we were elephants, we took so many banana trees, but our hunger was not satisfied. Still we are taking rice, dahl, chapati, but our hunger will not finish. If you surrender to Krishna, worship Krishna, chant the Holy Name of Krishna, you can go to your real home.
