Great Expectations His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Devotee: When we go to Goloka Vrindavan, we can find there so many souls who came from various Gurus, and we see that here in this world there are many Gurus, but it is not that they give the same kind of mercy... I think you have so much hope, do you not? You have so much desire to go to Goloka Vrindavan, but I have no desire for Goloka Vrindavan—I want to serve my Guru all my life! One devotee of Prabhupad Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur said, "Prabhupad, I saw so many great devotees—siddha, perfect devotees—in Vrindavan!" Prabhupad replied, "Did you? When I was in Vrindavan I did not see even one devotee there!" Do you understand? There are many who wear tilak, etc... Once, Gurudev asked me, "There are so many monkeys in Vrindavan. Do you know who they are?" I said, "No, Gurudev, I do not know." Then Gurudev said, "They are all fallen babajis." That is why we must be careful. We must be always careful with our service. Always be humble, practise, and whatever result comes, Krishna will give it. Do not hope for so many things, like, "I want to go Goloka Vrindavan", or, "I want this, I want that." Your duty is to only do service, to please your Guru. It is written in Srimad Bhagavad-gita simply, "Do your job, and do not hope for any particular result." Also, when you ask for something good, like you want to go to Goloka Vrindavan, you want to reach heaven, that is also a desire—it may not be a material desire, but it is still a desire. For example, you are doing Ekadashi today and you think and hope, "If I fast on Ekadashi, I will get some good result." If you think like this, you must renounce, reject this kind of thinking. Srila Prabhupad said, "ভোগ ত্যাগ, ত্যাগ ত্যাগ, bhog tyag, tyag tyag": enjoyment must be renounced, and renouncement also must be renounced. Do you understand it? It is not easy to understand this...
