Jagadananda Pandit's Chastity His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
When Mahaprabhu chastised Jagadananda Pandit, Sanatan Goswami cried, "Prabhu, You are giving bitter to me, and You are giving sweet to Jagadananda Pandit. You are not chastising me like You do him..." Mahaprabhu always gave respect to Sanatan Goswami because he was senior, a great scholar, a minister, and so on. When that same Jagadananda Pandit wanted to go to Vrindavan, like you all want to go, Mahaprabhu told him: "Go to Vrindavan, but do not stay there long. See Govardhan, but do not climb up to see Gopal." What will you get in Vrindavan? Gurudev said you would only see monkeys' stool—what can you see? Mahaprabhu sent Jagadananda Pandit—'sent' means Jagadananda Pandit wanted to go—and gave him permission, "Yes, you can go, but you will always stay with Rupa Goswami and Sanatan Goswami. Do not go alone for your own eye exercise." One time, Sanatan Goswami went begging madhukori, and someone gave him a saffron cloth. Sanatan Goswami tied it as a turban on his head and went to see Jagadananda Pandit. When Jagadananda Pandit saw the turban, he got very excited, "Prabhu, who gave you this cloth? When did Mahaprabhu give it to you?" Sanatan Goswami said, "Oh, no, no, no. Mahaprabhu did not give it to me. One sannyasi, Mukunda Saraswati, gave it to me." At that time, Jagadananda Pandit was cooking some rice and he took that pot of half-cooked boiling rice and cried, "I will throw this water on your face!! You are an associate of Mahaprabhu and you are taking a saffron cloth from some other sannyasi?! What is this??!" Sanatan Goswami immediately took off the turban and said to Jagadananda Pandit, "Please forgive my offence. Now I understand how much love and affection for Mahaprabhu you have!" That is called chastity.
