The Supreme and the Tiny His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Only Nityananda Prabhu and Srimati Radharani know who They will take service from. Everybody does not get such service—a great fortune is necessary. Gurudev said that we are practising and one leg may already be in Vaikuntha, inside, but if there is bad fortune, some offence, that leg can be removed from there—the leg that is inside can go outside; and by the good fortune, by the mercy of the Guru, Vaishnav, the leg outside can go inside, it also happens. That is why we must be always careful with our service, our service mood, and our practising life. Yesterday we were happy—by the mercy of Gurudev, Srimati Radharani and Nityananda Prabhu took our service. Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur said:
বড় দুঃখ পাইয়াছি স্বতন্ত্র জীবনে ।
bado duhkha paiyachhi svatantra jivane I experienced only great distress in my independent life. All my distress has gone away by embracing Your feet. Saranagati, 21.5 Why do we become sad? Why do we feel unhappy? Because we want to run independently. If you fully surrender to the Lord, surrender to your Guru, your sadness will go away because you will depend upon him in everything. You will have no problem at all, no unhappiness, nothing. If we depend on ourselves, we feel unhappy when something happens in our life, but a surrendered soul is never unhappy. Everything happens by the mercy and will of the Guru, Vaishnav, Bhagavan. So, the main thing is faith, saranagati—it is necessary for our spiritual life to believe that everything happens by the will of the Lord. Srila Gurudev told once that when Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj expired, he thought, "I am alone, who will make the arrangements? Who will dig and make Guru Maharaj's samadhi?" Gurudev did not tell anybody, did not invite anybody, but he was surprised how many people came that day and helped make the samadhi and arranged everything else. He was wondering, "Who sent these people?" Gurudev has told that you get service by the mercy of Guru, Vaishnav, Bhagavan, but you must be careful you do not lose your service through Vaishnav aparadh, seva aparadh, and Dham aparadh. You must be careful with this. We make so many offences unknowingly; if the feeling comes to your heart that "I am doing so much offence," it is a good symptom for your spiritual life. If, through your ego you think, "What I am doing is all right; everything is all right," it is not good at all for your practising life. Sometimes, when the practising life is a little longer, we start thinking that we are doing so much, we have done so many things, but Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead—how much can we do? We are tiny simple jiva souls. When we do something, we think we have done so much, then ego comes to our heart. It is not good for a practitioner. The feeling must come to our heart that we are offenders, making so many offences... Once, Gurudev was sitting in Dum Dum Park, and many devotees were doing so much big service. At that time my hand was shaking because of high blood sugar—I could not write properly and could not put my tilak properly. Seeing this, one devotee gave me a stick for putting tilak. When I was putting my tilak, I was remembering his name. He did a little service—not even one rupee was necessary to spend—but I was happy with that service. Do you see? It is a simple thing. It is Sriman Nityananda Prabhu's and Srimati Radharani's matter who They will take service from, but we should try heart and soul. We must do our duty. We must follow Mahaprabhu's instruction and teachings. প্রতিহিংসা ত্যজি অন্যে করহ পালন, pratihimsa tyaji karaha palana: stop ill-treating others, instead nurture others.
জীবন-নির্ব্বাহে আনে উদ্বেগ না দিবে ।
jivana-nirvahe ane udvega na dibe Do not trouble others for your own upkeep, forget your own happiness in the course of helping others. For your own happiness, to satisfy your own lifestyle, do not give any anxiety to others. You must sacrifice your life and renounce all enjoyment of material things for others' benefit. Our duty will be like that...
