Strongest Faith in Guru His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Actually, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu always teaches us, always shows us with His own example. Mahaprabhu accepted a Guru: when His father left his body, He went to Gaya to perform the last rites for His father, and when He saw Ishwar Puri there, He was very happy. He said,
প্রভু বলে, "গয়া-যাত্রা সফল আমার ।
prabhu bale, "gaya-yatra saphala amara Sri Chaitanya-bhagavat, Adi-khanda, 17.50 "I came to Gaya and now I have attained all the fortune, all the benefit, and everything has become successful because I have got my Guru here." Also, what He said to Ishwar Puri was very nice,
সংসার-সমুদ্র হৈতে উদ্ধারহ মোরে ।
"samsara-samudra haite uddharaha more Sri Chaitanya-bhagavat, Adi-khanda, 17.54 "I always swim in the samsara-samudra, the ocean of material environment... Prabhu, please rescue me from that kind of environment. Please rescue me. I fully surrender at Your lotus feet—my mana, prana, deha, my heart, my life and body, everything I am giving to You." This is a fundamental point. When you fully surrender to your Guru, you must have faith, "I may have no power, but my Guru is very powerful—he can rescue me. I am not perfect, but Gurudev is perfect, and he can make me perfect." That is the main point. "Gurudev can make me perfect"—such faith is necessary. I may not be fully qualified, but Gurudev is the most qualified devotee, a great Vaishnav, so if I have his association and have faith in him, he can give everything to me. Such kind of faith and mood is necessary for our spiritual life. The quality of our devotion depends upon faith. There are four types of faith: kamala-sraddha, taranga-sraddha, dridha-sraddha, sudridha-sraddha, weak, a little stronger, stronger, and the strongest faith. Haridas Thakur has the strongest faith. They were beating Haridas Thakur and saying to him, "Do not say, 'Hare Krishna'!" but Haridas Thakur shouted, "Hare Krishna!" They were beating him, and he was shouting, "Hare Krishna!" Eventually he became senseless, like dead, and those who were beating him thought he was dead and began to cry... So, such strongest faith is necessary.
যে যথা মাং প্রপদ্যন্তে তাংস্তথৈব ভজাম্যহম্ ।
ye yatha mam prapadyante, tams tathaiva bhajamy aham Howsoever people surrender to Me, I accordingly reward them. Being the ultimate goal of all paths, I am the objective to be attained by all. O Partha, all men follow My various paths. Srimad Bhagavad-gita, 4.11 Prahlad Maharaj is a santa-rasa bhakta. He has nothing, but he has faith in Hari, "Hari can protect me—no one can harm me. My father can do anything he likes, my Hari will protect me." It is necessary to always keep such strongest faith. Gurudev also gave another example of faith, and I have told it many times. You are going somewhere with your Gurudev, and you see a snake, "Oh, Gurudev, there is a very big snake!" but Gurudev says, "No, it is a piece of rope." You have to believe that. If you have such faith, you will be successful in your spiritual life. So many problems will come, but still you can go to God, you can go to your position if you have this strongest faith in your Guru. He can do everything for you, but our problem is that we cannot properly, 100%, surrender to our Guru...
