"Please Do Not Forget"

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
8 February 2017, Sri Ekachakra Dham
Translated from Bengali

The Lord cannot tolerate when His devotee is harassed, when His devotee is hurt or disrespected. We must try to never give pain to devotees. "Bhakta More bandhiya rakhiya hrdaya kamale (ভক্ত মরে বাঁধিয়া রাখিয়াছে হৃদয়-কমলে): devotees have Me tied to the lotus of their hearts." A cow cannot go anywhere without her calf—when the calf walks in front of her, then the cow walks behind it. The Lord is also like this. The Lord always rests in the hearts of His devotees:

ভক্তের হৃদয়ে সদা গোবিন্দ-বিশ্রাম ।
গোবিন্দ কহেন—মম বৈষ্ণব পরাণ ॥

bhaktera hrdaye sada govinda-visrama
govinda kahena—mama vaisnava parana

Govinda always rests in the hearts of His devotees. Govinda says, "Vaishnavs are My life and soul."

Suppose you have two children. One child always asks you, "Give me this, give me that, give me this, give me that", and the other child serves you in every way, takes care of you—who will you give your mercy and be affectionate to? The same is true with the Lord—those who serve the Lord selflessly (niskama), who think, "Whatever lot is destined for me, it is fine," they get the Lord's mercy. And if you like prayascha, to hoard or accumulate too much, then you will never get anything.

Whatever you do, who do you do it for? We think, "My house, my room, my family"... When you close your eyes, everything will stay here.

"Kothay chhilam, hetay elam, kothay yabo bhavi nai (কোথায় ছিলাম, হেথায় এলাম, কোথায় যাব ভাবি নাই): where I was, where I came, where I will go—I do not know." We have got this rare human birth at last, and if, having got this human birth, we do not use ourselves for the service of the Lord, we will have to take birth again. You think you will go to heaven, but even the demigods have to come back from heaven, and you too will have to come back. This is written both in Srimad Bhagavatam and Srimad Bhagavad-gita.

Whatever you have got is meant for the service of the Lord. The Lord says, "Whatever is created in this world, is meant for My service, for My enjoyment. You enjoy everything out of ego, but actually you are stealing My things and you are only enjoying sin." It is said in the Gita, "If you cook something and do not offer it to Me—if you steal and eat My things—you only enjoy sin." Devotees always offer everything to the Lord and take prasadam.

প্রসাদ-সেবা করিতে হয়
সকল প্রপঞ্চ জয়

prasada-seva karite haya,
sakala prapancha-jaya

"By honouring the Lord's prasad I conquer all worldly illusions."

(Saranagati, 31.5, by Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur)

জীবন অনিত্য জানহ সার
তাহে নানাবিধ বিপদ-ভার ।
নামাশ্রয় করি' যতনে তুমি
থাকহ আপন কাজে ॥

jivana anitya janaha sara
tahe nana-vidha vipada-bhara
namasraya kari' yatane tumi
thakaha apana kaje

"Understand the essence: life is temporary and filled with all sorts of adversity. Carefully taking shelter of the Name, engage in your work."

দিন যায় মিছা কাজে নিশা নিদ্রাবশে ।
নাহি ভাবি মরণ নিকটে আছে বসে ॥

dina yaya michha kaje nisa nidra-base
nahi bhavi marana nikate achhe base

"My days are passed in useless work and nights are wasted on sleeping. It never occurs to me that there is death sitting next to me."

('Durlabha manava janma labhiya' by Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur)

We never think that one day we have to leave this place...

I am requesting you all—please do not forget service to the Lord. You can make a temple in your own room or house. When you do everything for the Lord, when you use your room for the Lord, then your room becomes a temple...

If one does not faithfully follow Sri Gurudev and his followers, one only commits, in essence, the offence of worshipping one's own self.
