Advice His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
মূকং করোতি বাচালং পঙ্গুং লঙ্ঘয়তে গিরিম্ ।
mukam karoti vachalam pangum langhayate girim "The dumb can speak, the lame can climb a hill—all it takes is mercy from Gurudev." (Bhavartha Dipika) Those who are dumb can also talk, those who have no legs can climb a hill—how is it possible? It is necessary to have the mercy of Gurudev. What is mercy? Gurudev said that those who have service have mercy, and those who have no service have no mercy. That is why we must engage everybody in the service of the Lord, of Gurudev through the Guru-parampara, through Gurudev. Mahaprabhu gave one advice to the householder people, to those who do not live in a temple, "Make sure that not a day passes without the Holy Name and without service to Vaishnavs." Do not spend your day without chanting the Holy Name, do not spend your day without service to the Vaishnavs—such day is not your day, it is a bad day in your life. The day when you cannot serve Gurudev, the day when you cannot serve the Lord, the day when you cannot chant the Holy Name is a very bad day for you. Those who have taken shelter of Gurudev are the real disciples. You must follow what the scriptures tell and every day you must engage yourself in the service of your Guru and chant the Holy Name, both. If you spend any day without chanting the Holy Name, or if there is a day when you cannot do service, that is a very bad day for you. We must use ourselves for service to the Name every day. At the same time, if you want to serve Gurudev, then you must be a proper devotee. Without being a pure Vaishnav, without being a proper devotee, you cannot serve the Guru. Service to your Gurudev does not mean only massaging his feet, this is not service. Service means you must follow what your Gurudev tells. That is called service.
