Lord Varahadev's Appearance

Today is the appearance day of Lord Varahadev.

There were two gatekeepers, Jay and Vijay, in Vaikuntha. They guarded the door of Lord Narayan's room and made sure no disturbance came to Lord Narayan and Laksmi Devi. One time, the four sons of Brahma (Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanat-kumara and Sanatana) came to the gate naked to see the Lord. Jay and Vijay did not let them in, so the four sons of Brahma cursed them. Then, Narayan heard the noise outside and came out. The two brothers, Jay and Vijay, cried to the Lord, "They wanted to enter Your room. We did not want to disturb Your rest, so we did not let them in."

Srila Prabhupad also told this: sometimes, some devotees come to see Gurudev, and servitors say that Gurudev is not well. This is a wrong conception. Gurudev is never unwell. If you think, "Gurudev is not well," it means that you see Gurudev as a common mortal man. Many say, "Oh, Gurudev's health is not good, I cannot go now." This is a wrong idea, you see Gurudev as a mortal man. Therefore, it is necessary to always think what you are saying or doing.

So, Jay and Vijay told Lord Narayan, "They have cursed us to be born on earth." Then, Narayan said, "So be it." Jay and Vijay cried, "But why, Prabhu?" "I am sitting here and getting too fat, but I need some exercise for My arms and legs. I want to have some fight, but who will I fight with? I will fight with My own men. So, since Brahma's sons said, you have to be born on earth. If you want to be born as My devotees and live meditating on Me and worshipping Me, it will take you seven birth to come back, and if you choose to become My enemies and agree to fight with Me, it will take you three births." Jay and Vijay said, "Prabhu, we want to come back soon, so we choose three births."

This is how Jay and Vijay were born three times. In Satya-yuga, they were Hiranyakasipu and Hiranyaksa. In Treta-yuga, they were born as Ravan and Kumbakarna, and in Dvapar-yuga as Dantavakra and Sisupal. So, when one of them became Hiranyaksa and harassed the demigods from heaven, the Lord assumed the form of a boar (Lord Varahadev) and slew the demon. Lord Varahadev is also the master of Koladwip.

Today is Sri Varaha Dvadasi. There are ten incarnations of the Lord, and the incarnation of Lord Varahadev is one of them. Assuming the form of a boar, the Lord slew Hiranyaksa...
