Stench of Barren Hearts His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
I will tell you one more pastime from Srimad Bhagavatam and will finish after that. The holy narrations about the Lord—Sri Rupa-Raghunath katha—will never enter our ears and will never take a seat within our hearts for as long as we have material desires. When Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj came here from Vrindavan, do you know where he stayed? He stayed in a public toilet for six months. People asked him, "Babaji Maharaj, you are staying in this public bathroom, are you not getting the smell?" Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj replied, "Yes, I am getting the smell, and this smell can be tolerated, but it is very difficult to tolerate the smell that is coming from materialist people who are intoxicated with the material world, who are proud of their money, wealth, etc." This is what Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj said. That is why it is said that, "Have you become a sadhu or have you merely dressed as a sadhu?" I keep telling you—be careful. Be a sadhu, do not just dress as one. Do you know how Babaji Maharaj did his mala? (We will go to his samadhi-mandir during the parikrama of Mayapur.) He went to the cremation ghat, took some cloth there, tied knots on it, and he would chant on that. He later stayed in one palm leaf cottage. Everybody offered obeisance to him considering him a great sadhu. Seeing this, one man started imitating Babaji Maharaj thinking, "If I behave like him, everybody will give me respect!" He made a small house nearby, dressed like Babaji Maharaj and started chanting Hare Krishna. Somebody came to Babaji Maharaj and told him that there was another man like him nearby. Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj then said a very beautiful thing. When a pregnant lady feels labour pains, she is taken to a hospital, and then she delivers the baby—a girl or a boy comes. This is natural. On the other hand, some can pretend to be pregnant—you put a pillow inside your dress, say you are pregnant, and after that you say, "Oh, I have so much pain! So much pain! Take me to the hospital!"—somebody will take you to the hospital, but will the baby come or not? Nothing will come out of such a 'sadhu'—you can look like a pregnant lady, but the baby will not come unless you are actually pregnant. This is a beautiful conception, and these things are also mentioned in the scriptures.
