There was a story that happened one day and that our Gurupadpadma told us about. When he was staying at Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj's house, Gurudev would go door to door for collection (collecting money, etc.). One time, some man asked Gurudev, 'Why do you worship Krishna in lieu of Mother Kali?' Gurudev was a new brahmachari at that time, so he did not give any answer, but later, when he came back home, he told everything to Srila Swami Maharaj. Srila Swami Maharaj laughed and said, 'Gaurendu [it was Gurudev's brahmachari name], why did you not give any answer?

'Why did you not tell him: what benefit will you get if you worship Mother Kali? Here, you get rice, dal, subji – if you pray, you will get everything. But have you ever seen Mother Kali's garland? Her munda-mala garland is a string of cut-off heads, and have you seen any Vaishnav tilaks on those heads? All heads have only demons' tilaks. Your Mother Kali always walks around naked, and when you come to her, she takes you by the hair and cuts your head off. After that, your body gets thrown away for foxes, jackals and ghosts to ear it. It is not possible to stop Your Mother, so her husband Sivji Maharaj has to come and fall at her feet, pleading, 'Please, stop it! Stop it!' And when she finally stops, she puts her leg on Sivji Maharaj's chest. This is Your mother.

'Could you not tell this to that man? If anybody later asks you this again, you should answer like that.'

Srila Swami Maharaj told Gurudev very strong things.

'But if you worship Lord Krishna, you will get so many good things! You will get Yamuna, beautiful forests and beautiful houses! You can smell fragrant flowers, taste sweet fruits. You can get so much nice taste there. This is a transcendental abode that you can get. You will have paneer, laddhu, luchi and so many other nice things. You can play with Krishna, you can dance and chant with Him. But if you worship Mother Kali, you will go to the cremation ghat where many foxes, jackals, ghosts and witches live. You can go there and drink the blood of demons. There, they all drink blood and whiskey. That is your Mother Kali. What I want to give you is something very nice, but if you like blood and whiskey and want to live among ghosts and witches, then worship Kali.'

This is what Srila Swami Maharaj told our Gurudev. Gurudev told it to us one day.
