(1/5) Change of Mood

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Basirhat, 16 December 2020, morning, part 1
Translated from Bengali

Mahaprabhu told Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya, 'I have left My mother's service and have become mad – I have taken sannyas.' At first, when He had just taken sannyas, He stayed at the house of Advaita Prabhu, and Sita Ma (Advaita Prabhu's spouse) cooked many items for Him. Mahaprabhu took prasad there for the first time three days after taking sannyas. During that time, Sachi Mata asked Srivas Pandit, 'He has taken sannyas. Will He eat from my hand now if I cook something? I would be very happy to cook for Him because I know that I will not be able to cook for Him anymore...' Then, Mahaprabhu told, 'Tell My mother that whenever she cooks for Me, I will come and eat it. Every time she cooks, and whatever she cooks, I will come and eat it every time.' Mahaprabhu gave this promise. So, when Srivas Pandit told Him about His mother's request, Mahaprabhu replied, 'Why will I not take prasad if My mother cooks? Of course I will.'

He spent ten days at the house of Advaita Prabhu, and during that time He took prasad cooked by His mother's hand. During those days, Mahaprabhu chanted and danced with devotees the whole day, but Sachi Mata trembled with folded palms, cried and prayed, 'O Lord! Please protect my son!' Mahaprabhu would become overwhelmed with ecstacy and sometimes fall down, get up, then again fall down, and so on. He would fall down and hurt Himself...

After He took sannyas, Mahaprabhu's mood became different. Even when He took first initiation, His mood also changed. When Mahaprabhu went to Gaya and took initiation from Ishwar Puri, His whole mood and nature changed. Then, He took sannyas from Keshav Bharati...

Vishnupriya Devi did not go to see Him at Advaita Prabhu's house – she would have been allowed to come, but she did not come. She stayed at home and cried ('He has taken sannyas, I will never go to see Him again.') That was her divine mood.

After Mahaprabhu left Nabadwip, He stayed in Jagannath Ksetra, or Puri Dham.

[To the devotee hosting the programme] I have come to the temple at your home to offer my obeisance and ask Lord Jagannath for forgiveness because I have not been able to come to Puri this time, and Jagannath will think that I could not come because I was afraid of corona... The temple was closed, but it does not matter that I would not be able to enter the temple and offer my obeisance inside – I could have offered my obeisances outside and gone away...

Devotee: But it was possible to go there by car at that time.

It was, but there was some problem... Actually, what can one not do if one tries to? Where there is a will, there is a way. You cannot explain yourself in front of the Lord, saying, 'Oh, I could not come by car.' You can say this to me, but you cannot explain, or excuse, yourself in front of the Lord. 'I could not come for this reason' – this is all excuses. If you try to give such excuses in front of the Lord, you will not be spared. It is necessary to tell the truth. If I had tried, I would have gone; therefore, the truth is I have made an offence.

So, when Mahaprabhu left Advaita Prabhu's house with Nityananda Prabhu and a few other devotees, They visited the temples of Ksir-chor Gopinath and Saksi Gopal. At the temple of Saksi Gopal, They heard everything about what had happened to Madhavendra Puri (how Ksir-chor Gopinath stole sweet rice, and so on). They were very happy to hear about those pastimes. From there, They went to Atharnala.

Before that, Nityananda Prabhu broke Mahaprabhu's danda into three parts and threw it into the Bhargi River. When They came to Atharnala, Mahaprabhu asked Nityananda Prabhu, 'Nityananda, where is My danda?'

'Why?' Nityandanda Prabhu replied. 'Prabhu, as You chanted and chanted thinking about Lord Jagannath, You became overwhelmed with divine love and fainted. When You fainted, You fell on Your danda and it broke.' It was a sheer lie.

'Nitai, You know why I have taken sannyas and why I have come in this Kali-yuga. You know everything, I do not need to tell You anything. I have left everything in Sri Dham-Mayapur, Nabadwip, and went away taking only one danda, a stick, My sole treasure in the whole wide world, but You have destroyed even that! Do not go with Me! I will go alone now!' Mahaprabhu showed anger. He told the devotees, 'If you want, I will go first; otherwise, you can go first, and I will go behind.'

It is written in Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 'Who can break the danda, and who can be allowed to break it?'...

Start the Fire
'Answers to three question—accepting a guru, preaching to a child, and the meaning of Namabhas. 'You first start the fire, the wind will come!''

When we go along the current it is not necessary to do much hard labour;
but when the current is going against us, then we have to labour hard.
