Satiating Hunger His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Jay Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami
Maharaj ki jay [Noise in the audience.] Say together with me: "Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!" No other word should be coming out of your mouths. "Dinera madhye abala-tabala kata pachala parite para, tara madhye ki eka-bara govinda bolate nara! (দিনের মধ্যে আবল-তাবল কত পচাল পাড়িতে পার, তার মধ্যে কি একবার গোবিন্দ বলতে নার)—How many idle talks we have during the day, how much we talk during the day! We talk all sorts of nonsense and cannot even one time take the Name of Govinda!" How much we talk! Come, say with me:
হরে কৃষ্ণ হরে কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ হরে হরে ।
hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare
হরে কৃষ্ণ হরে কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ হরে হরে ।
hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare
Jay!
Devotee: Jay Om Vishnupad Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj ki jay. Harinam sankirtan ki jay. Gaura premanande Hari bol. When Srila Gurudev went to Mexico, he gave a very beautiful lecture. I have printed a new (Bengali) book from this lecture, you can all get a copy. In that book, I have also wrote a short lecture by Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. There was a festival going on at the temple, and a man came there and asked, "When are they going to give food for beggars?" I will read you from there. Srila Prabhupad gave a very beautiful answer: you can get so many things at the temple, you can hear Hari-katha! What pauper are you? Are you poor because you need food (bhojan), or are you poor because you need spiritual life (bhajan)? When you tell people water and food will be given here, then so many crowds come, but tell me dear, are you poor because you lack food, or are you poor because you lack spiritual life? We are all hungry for food—if you say there will be no prasad, the nat mandir will never become full. Now you can see that the nat mandir is full, there is no free place. We are all beggars for food. Srila Prabhupad said it very beautifully. Read it. The language is different, but you must try to read it. Not everybody has the capacity to understand Srila Prabhupad's language. Dear mind, what kind of pauper are you? Do you need only food? Are you tongue-poor? Have you come to this world just to satisfy your desires and senses, or have you come only to bring benefit to your soul? Which one? We do not think about the benefit of our souls—we always think about satisfying our senses (giving pleasure to our tongues, mouth, mind, etc.). We have no attachment or love for what the great souls say. We only want food! What is the need to come to the temple for that? If you want to come to the temple for the benefit of your soul, then you can come, but do not come as a beggar for food—come as a beggar for spiritual life! Always remember this. Anyhow, the time is short, I will not take much time. There are other sannyasis present here, and I would like to request them to speak about the glories of Srila Gurudev first. [After the honourable sannyasis of Sri Mayapur Dham speak, His Divine Grace continues his address:] I thought at first that because of the lockdown, we will lose so many devotees, but I can see now that there is no space in the nat mandir—the entire hall is filled. I know some of you cannot even enter or get a seat behind. What to do? On the one hand, by my misfortune, I left our temple and came here, but, on the other hand, you have all come here to give me your mercy, and that is my great fortune. I am praying to you all: I will speak briefly about Srila Gurudev; there are so many things that can be said about Gurudev, and it is not possible for such a low souls as myself to speak about his glories and qualities... There is a pranam-mantra of our Gurudev—our Param Gurudev, Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, composed it. It is never seen that Gurudev writes his own disciple's pranam-mantra, but Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj did that—he personally composed my Gurudev's pranam-mantra. He wrote:
গুর্ব্বাভীষ্টসুপূরকং গুরুগণৈরাশীষসংভূষিতং
gurvvabhista-supurakam guru-ganair asisa-sambhusitam "I offer my obeisance unto he who perfectly fulfils his Gurudev's most cherished desires; who is fully adorned with the blessings of his Gurudev’s associates; who is expert in all aspects of Vedic knowledge, both conceivable and inconceivable; who is the pre-eminent follower of Srila Rupa Goswami Prabhu's line; who is known as 'Govinda'—Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj; whose beautiful, effulgent, exalted form is infused with pure devotion; who is the Guru of the entire universe; and who is the giver of the seed of divine love for the Supreme Lord." "Guru-ganair asisa-sambhusitam": he is completely adorned with the blessings of his Gurudev and the entire Guru-varga. "Chintyachintya-samasta-veda-nipunam": he is expert in all conceivable and inconceivable knowledge, his knowledge is beyond even the Vedas. "Sri-rupa-panthanugam": he preaches the conception of Sri Rupanuga Sampradaya. "Govindabhidham ujjvalam": he is manifest in a very radiant way in this world, bearing the name Govinda Dev-Goswami. Srila Sridhar Maharaj said, "I will not be able to go to preach abroad, neither have I ever been able to go there, but Govinda Maharaj will preach my words and the words of Srila Prabhupad in this universe." This is the divine reassurance Srila Sridhar Maharaj gave in Srila Gurudev's pranam-mantra...
