Suspicion Leads to Suspension

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Kolkata, preaching programme,
16 January 2021, part 9
Translated from Bengali

After Narad Goswami gave his instruction to Vyasadev, Vyasadev wondered, "If I write an exclusive scripture about devotion, who will preach it in this world?" Then, he remembered Sukadev, who was his disciple or son, you can say both.

At that time, Sukadev had been in his mother's womb for already twelve years. You can see how incredible this pastime is. You may wonder what is the proof that Krishna is the Supreme Lord? You have children at home—are they born wearing clothes, tilaks, and with a garland on their necks? However, when Krishna was born in Mathura, He appeared assuming a four-armed form, wearing clothes, holding a conch, club, disk, and a lotus flower. When Krishna's parents, Devaki and Vasudev, offered their obeisance to Him, He became two-armed, and He was still clothed and decorated with ornaments. This is the difference.

So, when Vyasadev remembered Sukadev, he came to the boy, who was still in his mother's womb, and said,

"Sukadev, come! You must come out and preach religion in this world!"

Sukadev replied (he could speak even in his mother's womb!), "No, no, I will not come from here."

"Why will you not come out?"

"Because if I come out, Maya will catch me."

Then, many sages came there, including Parasara Muni, who was Vyasadev's father, advised Vyasadev, "You have much power, you can stop Maya's work for five minutes."

"Will you come out if I stop Maya for five minutes?" Vyasadev asked Sukadev.

"Yes, five minutes is enough."

When Sukadev Goswami appeared from his mother's womb, he ran away to the forest! We can wonder sometimes how this is possible. Our cow in Nrisingha Palli had a calf recently, and one hour after the calf was born, it was running around. If calves can do that, then why not humans? It is necessary to have faith.

'শ্রদ্ধা' শব্দে—বিস্বাস কহে সুদৃঢ় নিশ্চয় ।
কৃষ্ণে ভক্তি কৈলে সর্ব্বকর্ম্ম কৃত হয় ॥

'sraddha'-sabde—visvasa kahe sudrdha nischaya
krsne bhakti kaile sarva-karma krta haya

"Sraddha is firm, determined faith that by service to Krishna all actions are accomplished."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Madhya-lila, 22.62)

One time, a man came to me in Nabadwip. He worked at a rice mill and worshipped Kali. He would often be seen with a sindoor mark on his forehead. I asked him once, "Who put this sindoor for you?" and he explained that when he brought some bel leaves to somebody, they put a sindoor mark on him. A few days after that, he suddenly came to me wearing huge tilak marks. He pleaded, "Please save me! Please save me! When I saw you, I understood that you can save me!" One way or another, the Lord gives inspiration to people—whether it is Kali, Durga, Laksmi, or Ganesh, they are all under Lord Krishna. It is said in Sri Brahma-samhita:

ঈশ্বরঃ পরমঃ কৃষ্ণঃ সচ্চিদানন্দবিগ্রহঃ ।
অনাদিরাদির্গোবিন্দঃ সর্ব্বকারণকারণম্ ॥

isvarah paramah krsnah sach-chid-ananda-vigrahah
anadir adir govindah sarva-karana-karanam

"Krishna, who is known as Govinda, is the supreme controller. He has an eternal, blissful, spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no other origin, for He is the prime cause of all causes."

(Sri Brahma-samhita, 5.1)

He is the cause of all causes! That is why it is said that sraddha means a determined faith that by service to Krishna all actions are accomplished. Your debt to your father, mother, rishis (sages), demigods—all debts are cleared if you serve the Lord. One time, I was asked what my favourite verse of Srimad Bhagavad-gita was, and I said:

সর্ব্বধর্ম্মান্ পরিত্যজ্য মামেকং শরণং ব্রজ ।
অহং ত্বাং সর্ব্বপাপেভ্যো মোক্ষয়িষ্যামি মা শুচঃ ॥

sarva-dharman parityajya, mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo, moksayisyami ma suchah

"Give up all kinds of religion and surrender to Me alone. I will liberate you from all sins, do not despair."

(Srimad Bhagavad-gita, 18.66)

"Give up all religions—the religion of serving your mother, father, friends, the religion of sudras, brahmans, ksatriyas, vaisyas, etc. Give up all religions and surrender to Me. Do not worry, I will save you from all sins." It is necessary to believe this. If you have no faith, then how will you understand it? You will think, "Oh, Sukadev was just born, how could he run?"
