(2/5) Think About Lord

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Tarakeshwar area, 11 February 2021, part 2

If you want to attain great things, you must give up small things. Suppose you want to run a big business: to do that, you have to give up your small business. It is the same here, but the problem is that we can get the Lord Himself, but we do not want to give up small things.

Before the Pandavas fought against the Kauravas, Krishna asked both sides, ‘What do you want?’ The Kauravas said, ‘We want a big army,’ and the Pandavas said, ‘We want You.’ What happened to the Kauravas in the end? They lost the battle. Those who had Krishna on their side won. It is the same here. What will you do? Will you go to your own home, or will you keep wandering endlessly through hired places? Your own home is the home of the Lord, the home of gurudev; and the place where we are now is a rented place. One day or another, when the time comes and the owner kicks us out, we will have to leave this place at once – nobody will give us any time or notice.

জীবন হইল শেষ, না ভজিলে হৃষীকেশ ।
ভক্তিবিনোদ-উপদেশ, একবার নামরসে মাত রে ॥

jivana haila sesa, na bhajile hrsikesa
bhaktivinod-upadesa, eka-bara nama-rase mata re

‘Your life has come to an end, but you have not served Lord Hrisikesh. Here is Bhaktivinod’s advice: let the nectar of the Holy Name take over you just once.’

ekhana-o chetana peye, radha-madhava-nama bala re

‘Bound in Maya’s net, you waste your time on useless work. While you are still conscious, chant Radha-Madhav’s Names!’

(Sri Gitavali, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

You know, when I came to this line, everyone said that I had gone crazy because I had left my job and come to the temple. What happened to all those who said that? There were three–four, maybe even five, brothers, and my aunties were all beaten by their daughters-in-law – they would come to one house, the wife would beat them; they would go to another house, and another wife would beat them. They spent their lives suffering, but my mother died peacefully (in knowledge). She had been working, and she died when she was asleep. She did not suffer. Now they say about her, ‘Oh, her elder son does not work – he has left and become a sannyasi – but they have such a big house!’ Everyone else became poor. I do not know why they are saying this because I have never given them any money, I have never done anything for them. The Lord says, ‘If you think about Me, I will think about you. But if you think about yourself, then why must I look after you?’ Do not think about yourselves – always think about the Lord. Our line of devotion is such that we always think about the Lord, ‘How can I make the Lord happy?’

When Krishna had a headache and asked for some foot dust, Vraja gopis did not think about sins – they gave their foot dust. Why did they give it? To make Krishna happy. Laksmi could not give it, Siva could not give it, Brahma could not give it, Narad could not give it – nobody could give their foot dust. Krishna had so many queens headed by Satyabhauma and Rukmini, but even they could not give their foot dust, thinking, ‘We worship Krishna, how can we let our foot dust touch His head? It is a sin!’ They worried about themselves. But Vraja gopis said, ‘If our foot dust touches Krishna and His health comes right, then we must give it – even if our legs rot, we do not care!’ Narad said, ‘But you will go to hell!’ They said, ‘We do not mind it. If we commit a sin, whatever! If our legs rot, whatever! As long as our Krishna is well again, we do not care about anything.’ This is our line of devotion. This is jnana-sunya bhakti (knowledge-free devotion).

Step Forward
'Krishna is always waiting for our service, but the main thing that we must understand is that we must not only say we are disciples of Mahaprabhu, you will get the result when you follow His instruction, follow His advice.'

Whatever birth you take, you will always get a father and a mother, but it is not
in every life that you can get a bona fide, honest Guru.
