Passed or Failed?
His Divine Grace
We sing some songs in the morning and some songs in the evening—to get devotion we must practise devotion, otherwise if we do not practise, devotion will not come. Why do we lose interest? Why does the Holy Name not come to our mouth? Why do we not get taste for Hari-katha? It is taranga sraddha [flickering faith that comes in waves]... Why do we not get energy to chant the Holy Name? What is the problem? The only problem is that we use our time, we use our tongue to speak about other things—gramya-katha, visaya-katha, material talks, and so on. When your energy goes there and is lost there, how will you get the energy to chant the Holy Name? If your ear always hears other people's talks, some other material talks, how will you get taste, ruchi (রুচি), for chanting the Holy Name? You will not... Srila Guru Maharaj gave our society the name Krishna-anusilana Sangha. We must practise Krishna-anusilana, practise Krishna consciousness. If you do not practise Krishna consciousness, you will not get anything. Remember it—we must always practise. Practice makes perfect. Why do I sing the same kirtans every day? To teach others. We do not want to learn—our mind and thoughts go to another place; but if we hear Krishna-katha, Hari-katha, then it does not happen, desire for bhukti (enjoyment), desire for mukti (liberation) does not come. Gurudev said: when you go to primary school, high school, college, or do a course you always get there a certificate, but when you join the temple who will give you a certificate? You must make your certificate yourself. Gurudev said you can easily understand yourself whether you pass or fail, it is not necessary to take any examination to understand it—you can examine yourself, "Is the taste for Hari-katha, Krishna-katha coming to me or do I think more about other things?"
