Starting Siliguri Branch

In 2004, when Gurudev was in America, some Gaudiya Math invited me to Siliguri. At that time, we did not have a branch there. I went there and gave a lecture, it was some sannyasi's disappearance festival. That year Gurudev was in hospital in America and was going to be operated. Before going to the operation theatre, he called me (it was night time, 8-9 o'clock here) and said, "Maharaj, I am going for an operation, I cannot say if I will come back or not, only Guru Maharaj and Krishna know it, but you can take all charge, all responsibility for the entire society of Chaitanya Saraswat Math all over the world." I told Gurudev, "Do not worry, Krishna will protect you," and then I asked him for permission, "Gurudev, there are many good devotees in Siliguri. Can I make a branch here?" Gurudev said, "Yes, yes. If you want, you can start."

Then, I went to Siliguri again and a devotee there helped to arrange an old house. You can see that some new construction is going on there upstairs. A month after I bought that house, I started a centre there—we made an altar with Gurudev's and Nabadwip Deities' photos. One year later, I also bought another house there. Later, Gurudev sent me to do the Deity installation there, and by the mercy of Gurudev, I installed the Deities there.

Today, there are many good devotees in Siliguri. They are good-hearted, simple-hearted devotees, but only they do not know so much strong conception, they do not know Rupa Goswami's conception. Although they are a little sahajiya style people (they know everything, but they are attracted to fish and meat), but almost all of them came from Bangladesh, Mahaprabhu's place, so they are devotees. If preachers can give them some good conception, they can easily change. Also, there are some good disciples there, there are Gurudev's disciples and even some disciples of Srila Sridhar Maharaj. If they turn others into good devotees and bring them to the real line, real path, it will be good.
