Speaking online to the devotees in New York City
23 October 2011, part 1

I am very happy to see you all. I can see Gurudev through you all. Are you making a festival for Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj's festival?

—Yes.

Good. I am very happy to see that, but Gurudev wanted one centre in New York—do you know that?...

Anyhow, I am very happy to see you all. It was a good day yesterday—the festival at Hapaniya, the appearance (birth) place of Srila Sridhar Maharaj, I gave a lecture there.

Actually, you know that Gurudev gave me this position to serve you, and it is my happiness that you have all accepted me as your servant. When Gurudev gave me sannyas, he said to me, "Tridandi sannyas means you will serve my Mission, you will serve my devotees, and you will serve my Deity." And I am trying to do that. There is a little disturbance going on now, but I am thinking that our Chaitanya Saraswat Math is like a hill, and when somebody throws a stone at a hill, the hill has no problem, rather the stone will break. You know that bad people, naughty people, drain inspectors always search the drain, and good people always go to preach, they are always engaged in their movement, in Krishna-katha. That is our life. "Prana achhe yara, sei hetu prachara (প্রাণ আছে যার সেই হেতু প্রচার): as long as you have life in the body, you must preach."

What were we born in this human body for? Not for fighting, not for quarrelling, not for eating and sleeping—if we do not use this body for service to the Guru, for the service to the Lord, then this body is useless. We must use our body for service to the Guru, otherwise this body is useless. We do not know how many days we will live, how much time we have, but time is very short, we must use our time for the service to our Guru.

Actually, we do not know who is our Guru because our consciousness is always surrounded by maya, illusory environment, but Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj is a bona fide Guru and he told us, "Srila Govinda Maharaj is your Guru." Then we can easily understand it. We have no eyes to recognise who is a great Vaishnav, who is a great bona fide Guru, but Srila Guru Maharaj told Srila Govinda Maharaj was the Guru, then we can understand it and we must fulfil the desire of that main Vaishnav, great Vaishnav saint.

Gurudev is a captain of a boat, and we are all passengers of that boat. We can all go where that boat is going, but we must try to stay as passengers of that boat.

In his lifetime Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur also showed his desire. He wanted to hear the kirtan Sri Rupa manjari pada from Srila Sridhar Maharaj and through that Bhagavan Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur said, "I can depend only upon Sridhar Maharaj—only Sridhar Maharaj can continue the Rupanuga line."

You also know about the relationship between Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj and Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj. Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj said, "Sridhar Maharaj is my siksa Guru, my guardian," and Srila Sridhar Maharaj said that Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj Srila Prabhupad was Nityananda Prabhu's saktya-vesa avatar. He was first who said this about Swami Maharaj—only he gave this title (Nityananda Prabhu's saktya-vesa avatar) to Srila Swami Maharaj...

Sacrifice does not mean you must be renounced. Renunciation is not
necessary—only surrender.
