Srila Jagannath Das Babaji Maharaj His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
We have come with the parikrama now to this place—Srila Jagannath Das Babaji Maharaj's samadhi mandir and bhajan kutir. You can see his photograph in all our nat mandirs and temples (the last photo), he is a part of our Guru parampara line. Before the Ganges changed her course, there was a bank of the Ganges here in this place, and Srila Jagannath Das Babaji lived here and engaged in bhajan and chanting of the Holy Name. Before that, he lived in Vrindavan. One day he received a divine call from Radharani saying, "Why are you staying in Vrindavan? You must go to Nabadwip!" At that time Jagannath Das Babaji Maharaj could not walk, so his servant Bihari Das carried him in a basket on his head to Nabadwip. Tomorrow we are going to Svananda-sukhada-kunja, a place where Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur used to stay. One day, Bhakti Vinod Thakur was chanting the Holy Name and suddenly he saw some divine light far off. He went to see what it was and came to Yogapith (we went there yesterday). There, he saw many Tulasi trees growing in a garden. He asked some local man, "Why do you not cultivate this land? Why are here only Tulasi trees growing?" The man replied, "We have tried to plant something here many times, but only Tulasi always grows." Then Bhakti Vinod Thakur thought, "This must be the appearance place of Mahaprabhu!" Knowing that nobody would believe it (at that time, people thought that the place of Mahaprabhu's appearance had disappeared), he decided to bring Jagannath Das Babaji Maharaj to this place. When Jagannath Das Babaji Maharaj arrived, he jumped out of the basket and began to dance(!) shouting, "At last! This is my Lord's appearance place!" This is how this place was identified. He was 137 years old, could not walk, but seeing Mahaprabhu's appearance place he began to dance. He was a siddha purush (a liberated soul)...
