Sincere Surrender and Service

সর্ব্বস্ব তোমার চরণে সঁপিয়া
পড়েছি তোমার ঘরে ।

sarvasva tomara, charane sampiya,
parechhi tomara ghare

"I have offered everything at Your feet and taken shelter in Your home."

"I am giving everything to you. Now I am under your shelter, I am at your lotus feet." "Tumi ta thakur: you are the Lord; please treat me as your dog. I am your dog—you can tie me in front of your door, in front of your house, and my duty is to protect you. When I see your enemy approach, I will chase them away from the boundary of your place. I will protect you and chase them away from your place."

তব নিজ-জন প্রসাদ সেবিয়া
উচ্ছিষ্ট রাখিবে যাহা

tava nija-jana, prasada seviya,
uchchhista rakhibe yaha

"Whatever remnants your devotees leave behind after honouring Your prasad, I will eat that every day in great ecstasy."

"I will take the remnants of whatever prasadam your devotees take."

নিজের পোষণ কভু না ভাবিব
রহিব ভাবের ভরে ।

nijera posana, kabhu na bhaviba,
rahiba bhavera bhare

"I will never think about my own maintenance; I will always remain within the shelter of loving attachment for You."

"I will not think about myself, I will always think about you! My duty is to always think about you, and what you will do is up to you."

If you think about the meaning of this song, you can understand how much you must surrender. And what shall we do after that? How shall we practise? What are Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's teachings?

দৈন্য, দয়া, অন্যে মান, প্রতিষ্ঠা বর্জ্জন ।
চারিগুণে গুণী হই করহ কীর্ত্তন ॥

dainya, daya anye mana, pratistha-varjana
chari gune guni hai karaha kirtana

"Humility, compassion, honouring others, and giving up prestige—become qualified with these four qualities and chant the Name."

Be humble, tolerant and give honour to others. The problem is our ego. Because of our ego we cannot do anything. You think, "Gurudev has given me some chanting beads, and I chant four rounds, it is sufficient," but you do not know how much Nama-aparadh (offence to the Holy Name) you make through your chanting. You think you do one lakh Names on your beads every day, but how much pure Harinam is there in this quantity? The scriptures say that among ten million of karmis you will get one wise person, among ten million of wise people you will get one liberated soul, and among ten million of liberated souls you will get one devotee. It is very rare to get a devotee.

We wear tilak, we wear mala, etc, but we are not practising:

“গোরার আমি, গোরার আমি” মুখে বলিলে নাহি চলে ।

গোরার আচার, গোরার বিচার লইলে ফল ফলে ॥

"gorara ami, gorara ami" mukhe balile nahi chale
gorara achara, gorara vichara la-ile phala phale

Just saying, "I am Gora's! I am Gora's!" does not do. Only when you follow Gora's practices and Gora's conception will you get the proper result.

Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 8.6

You tell everybody, "I am Mahaprabhu's devotee!" but you do not follow the conception of Mahaprabhu, you do not preach Mahaprabhu's teachings.

লোক দেখান গোরা ভজা তিলক মাত্র ধরি ।

গোপনেতে অত্যাচার গোরা ধরে চুরি ॥

loka dekhana gora bhaja tilaka matra dhari'
gopanete atyachara gora dhare churi

You show the world you serve Gora simply by wearing tilak but secretly you misbehave. Gora will catch you, you thief!

(Sri Sri Prema-vivarta, 8.7)

"You show to the world that you are a devotee and secretly do some nonsense things, but Gora knows you are a thief." This is Mahaprabhu's teachings...
