Foul Pill to Swallow His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
chari varnasrami yadi krsna nahi bhaje "Whatever varna (a priest, fighter, manager, or worker) or asram (a celibate, householder, renouncer of the household life, or monk) you may belong to, if you do not worship Krsna but engage in your prescribed duties, you will have to fall into a terrible hell." (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Madhya-lila, 22.26) If you give 25%, you will get 25%. If you give 75%, you will get 75%. If you give 100%, you will get 100%. That is the main things, Prabhu... If you are attached with material things and have material desires, it is called anyabhilasita. It must be given up (anybhilasita-sunyam). Srila Rupa Goswami said,
anyabhilasita sunyam jnana-karmady anavrtam "The highest devotion is that which satisfies Lord Krsna, free from the coverings of any pursuits such as action, knowledge." (Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhuh, 1.1.11) That is bhaktir uttama, highest devotion.
anya abhilasa chhadi, jnana karma parihari "The topmost process of devotional service is to worship the Lord with body and mind, giving up desires for fruitive activities and mental speculation. One should serve Lord Krsna in the association of devotees without worshipping any demigods." (Sri Sri Prema-bhakti-chandrika, 13, Srila Narottam Das Thakur) You must leave other material desires. That is the main thing. You must remember also what Chaitanya-charitamrita says:
সন্ন্যাসীর ধর্ম্ম,—নহে সন্ন্যাস করিঞা ।
sannyasira dharma nahe—sannyasa karina "After accepting sannyas, it is not the duty of a sannyasi to remain at his birthplace, encircled by relatives." (Chaitanya-charitamrita, Madhya-lila, 3.177) A sannyasi will not stay with his relatives. Otherwise it is called not a sannyasi, but a vantasi. Vantasi means you vomit something and then again take that vomit. Can you do that? These are not my words—this is what Srimad Bhagavatam says(*). If I say something like this, then everybody will be unhappy or angry, "Oh, do you mean me?" "Maybe he means me?" People say like this. I cannot speak the truth, what can I do?...
*The verse from Srimad Bhagavatam (7.15.36) that His Divine Grace is referring to:
যঃ প্রব্রজ্য গৃহাৎ পূর্ব্বং ত্রিবর্গাবপনাৎ পুনঃ ।
yah pravrajya grhat purvam tri-vargavapanat punah "One who accepts the sannyas order gives up the three principles of materialistic activities in which one indulges in the field of household life (religion, economic development and sense gratification). One who first accepts sannyas but then returns to such materialistic activities is to be called a vantasi, or one who eats his own vomit. He is indeed a shameless person." (Srimad Bhagavatam, 7.15.36)
