Gadadhar Pandit served Sri Gopinath...

[Somebody's phone rings]

Whose phone is ringing? Are you an SP (Superintendent of Police) or a DM (District Magistrate) that your phone is ringing all the time? My phones are not ringing. If you keep talking with materialists or about material things, this is not Krishna consciousness. You have come to the ashram to hear Hari-katha, to hear about the Lord, but if you speak with materialists and think about material things (if your mind stays outside), then you can never do a parikrama like this. What did Prabhupad Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur say? A devotee finished Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama and came to Prabhupad, saying, 'Prabhupad, I am going home,' but Prabhupad said suddenly, 'Home? What home? You do not have to go there! Is your house on fire? Let it burn! Even if your house is on fire, you do not need to go there.' You have come here to do a parikrama for seven days, but some of you go for walks, some of you are enjoying yourselves – if you come like this, you will not get a good result. You can come to Puri with a bus excursion also, but nobody will show all these places, nobody will tell all this Hari-katha – nobody will give you sravan and kirtan. You will go by bus, stop at some place, take photos, buy some souvenirs and go away. But why have you come to the temple? If you do not do that which you have come here for, you will not get anything. How long have we been forgetful of the Lord! We are the Lord's children, and we have lost our own home. Come back to your home! Time is very short! Pariksit Maharaj has got seven days, but we do not know if we have even seven days. We can leave at any moment. Khatvanga Maharaj got forty-eight minutes, but do not know if we even have one second. We have to leave any time. I am praying to you – as long as you are in this world, speak about the Lord, listen about the Lord. Give up all the material 'village' talks, give up all nonsense talks. Sriman Mahaprabhu told this to Raghunath Das Goswami right here in Puri:

গ্রাম্যকথা না শুনিবে, গ্রাম্যবার্ত্তা না কহিবে ।
ভাল না খাইবে আর ভাল না পরিবে ॥
অমানী মানদ হঞা কৃষ্ণনাম সদা ল'বে ।
ব্রজে রাধাকৃষ্ণ সেবা মানসে করিবে ॥

gramya-katha na sunibe, gramya-varta na kahibe
bhala na khaibe ara bhala na paribe
amani manada hana krsna-nama sada la'be
vraje radha-krsna seva manase karibe

"Do not listen to village talks, do not speak about village news. Do not eat fancy food, do not wear fancy clothes. Do not expect honour to yourself and give all respect to others. Always chant the Holy Name of Krishna and serve Radha-Krishna in your mind."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 3.6.236-237)

You must serve Radha-Krishna in your mind. You have come here to serve Radha-Krishna. Sri Guru, Vaishnavs and the Lord have arranged prasadam, accommodation. If you feel there is too little room for you, you can leave. Many people and dogs sleep in the streets, then think what your position is and think how you have come to this position. I am praying to you all: you have come here for a short time, so do this parikrama without disturbance.

Tomorrow, we will take breakfast, and if it is raining, we will not go out because I do not want anyone to get sick...

If we rely on Sri Guru and Vaishnavs, we can move far ahead. That is why I am telling you that you have come here and have been going on parikrama so nicely, and it is not necessary to go anywhere on your own – I will take you wherever it is necessary for you to go to. I will take you everywhere and tell you everything nicely, do not worry about anything. Keep the Lord close to you, keep Gurudev's words close to you, and you will see that everything will be all right. There will be no obstacles. If you see me, you should have some hope. I have overcome so many difficulties, so many obstacles and dangers, but I have never left – and I have never been harmed in any way. I am continuing with you all even now. Am I not still with you? [Devotees: Yes!] Then have some faith in me.

So, we have been to the temple of Tota Gopinath today. Gadadhar Pandit served the Deity at that temple. Gadadhar Pandit thought, 'Mahaprabhu goes to various places, preaching here and there, but I cannot go anywhere – I always only worship the Deity.' So, one day, he wanted to go together with Mahaprabhu. When Mahaprabhu was leaving, he came and said, 'I must go with You!' Mahaprabhu replied, 'No! You have service. You must not go away from Puri leaving your service. You must serve Gopinath!' What did Gadadhar Pandit reply? 'If I serve You, it is the same as doing ten million services to Gopinath! If I stay with You and see Your lotus feet, it is equal to millions of Gopinath.' Always remember this. What did Mahaprabhu say to this? 'Quiet. Stop your mouth. Do not say anything.' Saying this, Mahaprabhu went to the boat, and Gadadhar Pandit fell down, senseless.

Gadadhar Pandit often cooked wild spinach (avona sak), and Mahaprabhu would always come to take prasad, even if Gadadhar Pandit did not invite Him. He would be very pleased and happy to take various prasad cooked by Gadadhar Pandit.

Gadadhar Pandit would read Srimad Bhagavatam, and Mahaprabhu would listen to him reading.

This was Gadadhar Pandit's service.
