Learn Siddhanta His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Our Guru-varga has been trying to preach Krishna consciousness so much. I heard about Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj's temple at Satish Mukherjee Road, Kolkata. There was time when not so many brahmacharis would come when he gave class, but so many brahmacharis would turn up at the prasadam time. So, one day, he took Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, came to the hall when the devotees were taking prasadam, and, sitting on a Vyasa-asan, started reading it during prasadam time. He told everybody, "Take prasadam with your hand and mouth, it is not a problem, but you must listen to my reading of Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita with your ears, I am going to read it to you and you must listen." Everybody got shy and after that they started coming to the class on Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita. This is what happened. How much our Guru-varga has been trying to teach proper Krishna consciousness, to teach proper etiquette! I can say also that I understand well what Gurudev teaches us, what is Gurudev's mood, and what is service. Even some small service can please the Lord. There was a lady working in Srivas Pandit's house—she had no relatives, and she would clean the plates, bring water (at that time, there was no tap water; water had to be brought from a pond or a river) and do other works around Srivas Pandit's house. Her name was Duhkhi ('duhkhi' means 'sad'). One day, Mahaprabhu's appearance day was coming, and Srivas Pandit told that lady, "Duhkhi, do you know who will come today? You are going to bring some water, but do you know who will take a bath with your water? The Lord Himself, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, is coming! He is going to bath with the water that you are going to bring." Duhkhi became very happy and began to cry (sometimes people cry out of happiness also). Soon after that, Mahaprabhu came to Srivas Pandit's house. Seeing Duhkhi bringing water and crying, Mahaprabhu asked her, "What has happened? What is wrong with you? Why are you crying and what is your name?" She replied, "I am Duhkhi [lit. 'sad']." Mahaprabhu said at once, "From today your name will be Sukhi [lit. 'happy']!" She got mercy of Mahaprabhu. Srivas Pandit also had a niece Narayani, who is the mother of Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur. Narayani would often come to Mahaprabhu when He was taking prasadam, stretch out her hand and ask for prasadam. Mahaprabhu would give her some of His prasadam because she was just a baby—normally, Mahaprabhu never gave His prasadam to anyone, but she was one three-four years old, a little girl, so He gave some prasadam to her. Taking that prasadam, she got Mahaprabhu's mercy—even though later she got married and her husband did not follow Krishna consciousness properly, she got a good son, Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur, who composed Sri Chaitanya-bhagavat. Then, you can understand the effect of good association. You can also see the result of Vaishnav aparadh when brahman Gunarnava Mishra made an offence to Ramdas Minaketan. What kind of offence did he make? Gunarnava Mishra did not like Nityananda Prabhu, and when Nityananda Prabhu's servitor Ramdas Minaketan came to the programme at the house of Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami's brother, Gunarnava Mishra did not give proper respect to him (even though he was worshipping Mahaprabhu, he did not give respect to a servitor of Nityananda Prabhu). Ramdas Minaketan was a little upset and told about it to Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami. Later that day, Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami dreamt of Nityananda Prabhu—Nityananda Prabhu told him not to keep this bad association. He said, "Because your brother is not good, do not stay in Jhamatpur [the place where the two brothers stayed]. Do not stay in this house with your brother—leave it and come to Vrindavan." The next day Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami left his birthplace and went to Vrindavan. After that, he got much mercy from Madan Mohan and composed Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita. We can become good and proper devotees through good association. I did not know anything, but through my Gurudev's association, by my Gurudev's mercy I have become a good boy, and I can understand what is the mercy of Gurudev. You too take his instruction, take his association, and you will become a proper devotee—you can get proper devotion and proper service, and you can reach Goloka Vrindavan to serve Radha-Krishna; through Nityananda Prabhu, you can get service and go to Goloka Vrindavan. Jay Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj ki jay.
