Sarveswar and Nirgun Krishna His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
"Amara jivana sada pape rata nahika punyera lesa": our lives are always full of sin. "Parere udveg": we give so much anxiety to others. This was expressed for us by Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur. How perfectly he expressed it! We also sing, "Sarvasva tomara, charane sampiya, parechhi tomara ghare"—we surrender and come to You, Prabhu; we do not know anything, we have no quality or qualification, we can only depend upon You. You are sarvesvar (master of everything), You know everything. We must understand the meaning of these songs. Krishna is nirgun (beyond the three material modes, or gunas, of goodness, passion, and ignorance). I remember reading in one of the books that after the Kuruksetra war one rishi named Utanka told Krishna, "Krishna, look at this—the widows are crying, they have lost their husbands and sons, children are crying because they have lost their fathers. Everyone is crying and it is all because of Your war! You are responsible for all this! I am giving You a curse!" Krishna stopped him and said, "You are a brahman rishi, you have acquired so many things through your pious activities. Yet I am nirgun. You can curse Me, but you will only lose all the result of your pious activities, it will do nothing to Me." Then, you must believe that He is all in all, that He is doing everything.
ঈশ্বরঃ পরমঃ কৃষ্ণঃ সচ্চিদানন্দবিগ্রহঃ ।
isvarah paramah krsnah sach-chid-ananda-vigrahah "Krishna, who is known as Govinda, is the supreme controller. He has an eternal, blissful, spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no other origin, for He is the prime cause of all causes." (Sri Brahma-samhita, 5.1) He is the cause of all causes. He is doing everything, and we are only His instruments, we cannot do anything. We should surrender to Him and practise properly: sadhu-sanga, nama-sankirtana, Bhagavata-sravana, mathura-vas. Mathura-vas does not mean you must stay in Mathura. Mathura is Krishna-katha. We will not go to the place where there is gramya-katha, nonsense talks, we will not listen to this, we will ignore it, but we will go to the place where there is sadhu-sanga, good things—we will speak and listen to Krishna-katha, Hari-katha, Bhagavat-katha. If you use your tongue for talking so many nonsense things, you will lose the energy and will not be able to speak talk Krishna-katha. If you walk here and there, you will lose energy and will not be able to do even Tulasi parikrama—you will not be able to walk the dham parikrama because you have been walking in so many nonsense places (places that are not a dham, not a holy place). We have indirya, senses—chaksu, karna, nasika, jihva, tvak (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin)—and we must use all these senses for the service to the Lord. You must use all your energy for the service to the Lord. This is the main thing you must understand.
জড়বিদ্যা যয়, মায়ার বৈভব,
jada-vidya yata, mayara vaibhava, "All mundane learning is a manifestation of illusion (maya) and an obstacle to Your service. It brings about infatuation with the temporary world and turns the soul into an ass." (Saranagati, 3.3) What education do mundane schools, colleges, universities give? What do they teach? It is all jada-vidya (mundane knowledge), avidya (ignorance). Suppose someone becomes a big doctor and says, "Oh, I can do many things!" but ask them, "Can you give relief to a patient if he has died?" They cannot do that—no doctor can give life to those who have died. Even scientists say that they can do so many things, they have invented so many things, but they cannot give life to a soul, jivatma. Then we must understand that everything is in Krishna's hands. The sun is giving light, the moon is giving light—He is doing all this. He controls everything that is happening in this world. Krishna orders Brahma and Brahma creates this whole universe—everything is running on Krishna's order, with Krishna's intention; otherwise, nothing could work. We must have faith and believe these things. When we are born, our mothers tell is, "This is your father," and we believe it because only the mother knows who the father is: "This is my father because my mother has said so." In the same way, we must believe properly what the scriptures say.
