Take Care of This Line

When I joined the temple, Gurudev told me, "I am going abroad for Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math. You are a capable person—knowing that you are here, I can preach abroad properly. Take care of the Indian devotees while I am away." I followed Gurudev's order. I did whatever his desire was—I built many quarters for devotees, guesthouses, the goshala, and so many other things. Some time later, Gurudev told me one day, "You only go to cultivate the land and do the construction, but you should also sometimes read books." He told me to start reading Gaudiya Kantha-hara, and I started reading it. Then, he ordered me to also give class and read Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita in the evenings. After that, Gurudev sent me house to house to preach to Bengali devotees. When it was Gurudev's appearance day, he would always come to Nabadwip—maybe only one-two times Gurudev celebrated it with foreign devotees abroad (in Australia and maybe some other places); other than that, most of the years, he was present in Nabadwip, and we celebrated his appearance day in a very gorgeous way. Then, Gurudev sent some brahmacharis to preach in Bardhaman District in Bengal, and Gurudev told me, "You must go to the places where I used to go for preaching and collecting rice and potato." In this way, Gurudev gave me the responsibility to collect potato and rice, to chant the Holy Name, and invite everyone to Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama. Finally, many devotees started to join Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama, and Gurudev was very happy with that.

During all these years, so many obstacles came in Gurudev's time also. When Gurudev had just come to the temple in 1947, seven days later, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj observed him and thought, "This boy will be my successor." Because of this, many of Gurudev's godbrothers were jealous and created problems. Gurudev told me their names, but I do not want to mention them. After that, in 1985, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj gave Gurudev sannyas and full responsibility for the temple as the Successor Acharya of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math all over the world. When Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj left his body in 1988, Gurudev had not been able to go abroad until 1992 because of the problems at Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math. When I joined the temple in 1992, Gurudev gave me this responsibility of taking care of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math as the manager, and I tried to fulfil his desire. This is the main history. This is how Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math is now giving the proper conception all over the world on the order of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, and our beloved Gurudev Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj.

So, I have told you some of the history of Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math. I am very unqualified, but Gurudev told me to take care of you all and to give what he has told me. Therefore, I am telling you all now what I have got from him. Actually, everything I have—any position, sannyas, etc.—everything is coming from him. I always think that I want to become your servant. I am always at your service, this is always my hope.

I am again paying my humble obeisance to all the devotees and requesting you to please take care of what Gurudev has told, take care of his words. This is my hope and my everything.
