You have been practising Krishna consciousness for one year already, you have got good association—you are a very fortunate soul because you are already engaging yourself in the service of Guru and Gauranga, as well as their devotees.

ব্রহ্মাণ্ড ভ্রমিতে কোন ভাগ্যবান্ জীব ।
গুরু-কৃষ্ণ-প্রসাদে পায় ভক্তিলতা-বীজ ॥

brahmanda bhramite kona bhagyavan jiva
guru-krsna-prasade paya bhakti-lata-bija

"Having travelled throughout the universe and got the mercy of Guru, Krishna, a fortunate soul receives a seed of the devotional creeper."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Madhya-lila, 19.151)

You have already joined Krishna's family, you are serving Krishna's devotees, and now you are going to take the holy seed of devotion, bhakti-lata-bij. If you take proper care of that seed, it will one day grow into a tree and you will get the fruit—you will get taste through that chanting. It is necessary to chant the Holy Name for that. When you are cooking, when you are cutting vegetables, always chant the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.

This maha-mantra has come through a Guru parampara: from Krishna to Brahma, from Brahma to Narad, from Narad to Vyasadev, from Vyasadev to Madhva Acharya, and in this way down to Madhavendra Puri. Then, it came from Madhavendra Puri to Ishwar Puri, from Ishwar Puri to Mahaprabhu. Mahaprabhu Himself took initiation from Ishwar Puri—He Himself accepted a Guru. You know that if you want to learn something, you need a teacher—if you want to cook, you need a good teacher. In this way, through this Guru parampara, this Hare Krishna maha-mantra came to Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, he had got a special permission from Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur and Nityananda Prabhu. In his lifetime, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj chose our Gurudev Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj as his successor sevaite. Finally, Srila Gurudev appointed his Godbrothers and also gave me this kind of position to initiate those who promise to follow the rules and regulations properly, who can chant properly, with heart and soul, and who will serve properly. Actually, this Holy Name is for service—when service comes to you, you have to accept it.

Take the beads now and hold the sumeru bead.

শ্রীকৃষ্ণচৈতন্য প্রভু নিত্যানন্দ ।
শ্রীঅদ্বৈত গদাধর শ্রীবাসাদি গৌরভক্তবৃন্দ ॥

This is Pancha-tattva's name. First chant their name and ask them for mercy because they have brought the Holy Name to this abode and without their mercy we cannot chant. Then, you can see that there are big beads and small beads on both sides, start chanting from the big beads:

হরে কৃষ্ণ হরে কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ হরে হরে ।
হরে রাম হরে রাম রাম রাম হরে হরে ॥

hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare

Next bead:

হরে কৃষ্ণ হরে কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ হরে হরে ।

In this way, chant on the beads one by one, from the big beads to the small beads, then when you finish the small beads, without crossing the sumeru bead, start chanting again from the small beads to the big beads. In this way, chant from the big beads to the small beads, from the small beads to the big beads, and from the big beads to the small beads, from the small beads to the big beads. Chant in this way sixteen rounds or more every day, that is good for you. Sixteen rounds. If you are busy with service (not with gossiping) any day, then you can chant four rounds. You must chant not less than four rounds every day. Talking is only for Krishna-katha, not any other katha.

গ্রাম্যকথা না শুনিবে, গ্রাম্যবার্ত্তা না কহিবে ।
ভাল না খাইবে আর ভাল না পরিবে ॥
অমানী মানদ হঞা কৃষ্ণনাম সদা ল'বে ।
ব্রজে রাধাকৃষ্ণ সেবা মানসে করিবে ॥

gramya-katha na sunibe, gramya-varta na kahibe
bhala na khaibe ara bhala na paribe
amani manada hana krsna-nama sada la'be
vraje radha-krsna seva manase karibe

"Do not listen to the mundane talks, do not listen to the mundane news. Do not eat fancy food, do not wear fancy clothes. Do not expect honour to yourself, but offer all respect to others. Always chant the Holy Name of Krsna, and in your mind serve Radha-Krsna."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Antya-lila, 6.236-237)

Gossiping is gramya-katha. So, chant sixteen rounds or more but if any day you are busy with service, then not less than four rounds. Do not make your beads fast. If you make your beads fast any day, then you must also fast that day.

There is also the ten offences book. Read that whole book, it is good for you. You can learn something from this book, especially the ten offences of the Holy Name—read what those offences are and chant without offence, then you will get the result quickly and very nicely. Chant this Holy Name, it will be very good for you—Krishna will reveal Himself in your heart and you will succeed in your spiritual life.

Now chant four rounds minimum, do not talk to anybody.
