You are a very fortunate soul because you have already got good association from a highest devotee, who is like a guru to me, and he has prepared you to accept this new life, Krishna consciousness life. You are already with him, serving him, and that gives great benefit for you. Actually, he is also my siksa-guru, so it is my happiness that you have got his association. He is not accepting disciples now, so he sends them to me, but, still, you can serve him, I will also be happy. So, your land is already fertile, and only the seed, the bhakti-lata-bij, is left to be put there. You are very fortunate to have got this association and to be taking this holy seed today.

This Holy Name comes through the Rupanuga-dhara, our guru-varga. It came from Krishna to Brahma, from Brahma to Narad, from Narad to Vyasadev, from Vyasadev to Madhvacharya, and so on. In this way, it came to Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj and then our Gurudev, Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, who told me in his lifetime, 'If anybody wants to take initiation and they want to follow the rules and regulations properly, you can give initiation to them.' You are staying with devotees, so you know all the rules and regulations. There are four rules and regulations: (1) gambling, (2) drinking alcohol, whiskey, smoking, (3) illicit sex, and (4) eating fish, meat, etc. (onion and garlic are also not good). These are the restrictions in our lives. You know about it very well, so I think that you are already ready to receive the initiation and the beads.

Please take the beads in your hand now. Touch the central bead called Sumeru and say:

শ্রীকৃষ্ণচৈতন্য প্রভু নিত্যানন্দ ।
শ্রীঅদ্বৈত গদাধর শ্রীবাসাদি গৌরভক্তবৃন্দ ॥

sri-krsna-chaitanya prabhu nityananda
sri-advaita gadadhara srivasadi gaura-bhakta-vrinda

This is the Pancha-tattva's Name. First chant Their Name, pay obeisance to Them and ask Them for mercy – say, 'I am a fallen soul, I do not have any qualities or qualification.' They have brought this Holy Name in this abode, and we cannot chant this Holy Name without Their mercy. So, first chant the Pancha-tattva's Name, then start chanting from the big beads. I am going to chant now, only listen to it, it is not necessary to repeat now.

হরে রাম হরে রাম রাম রাম হরে হরে ॥

Chant in this way on each bead, one by one. The next bead:

হরে কৃষ্ণ হরে কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ কৃষ্ণ হরে হরে ।
হরে রাম হরে রাম রাম রাম হরে হরে ॥

Chant in this way, from the big beads to the small beads, then take turn and chant from the small beads to the big beads. Do not cross the Sumeru bead. When you finish one round, start from the same bead you finish – from the big ones to the small ones, from the small ones to the big ones, and from the big ones to the small ones, from the small ones to the big ones. Chant every day sixteen rounds or more. If you are busy with service any day, chant not less than four rounds: four rounds must be chanted every day, it is good for you. Whenever you do other services (cooking, etc.), at this time chant without the beads. Always chant the Holy Name, do not talk so much about other things, do not gossip and have other nonsense talks. You must always engage yourself in service, make yourself busy with service. 'Sevonmukhe kaha Krsna nama' ('chant the Holy Name in service mood'): it means that you can chant without the beads at any time, it is not a problem.

There is also the ten offences book. There are many offences, such as sadhu-ninda and vaishnav-ninda. You must read this book and avoid the ten offences. If you can chant without offences, Krishna will reveal Himself in your heart and you will be successful in your spiritual life. You can chant four rounds on your mala now, after that you can do your service.

It is good if you come to mangal-arati everyday. It is a good symptom. Practise properly. Sometimes, some anartha can come, but at this time you should chant the Holy Name loudly. Whenever any other, material desire comes, you must nip it in the bud (finish it at the root) – do not let it increase. It is very important. The main thing is service – if devotees engage themselves in service, it is good for them. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur said to all the brahmacharis and sannyasis, 'I will not keep any money for you all because if I keep any money, you will become lazy.'
