(1/2) We Forget Ourselves

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
21 January 2019, part 1

When I initiate people, I initiate them because I want to serve them. That is my earnest desire, and that desire is my life. Actually, everybody is following properly what Gurudev, Guru Maharaj and even Prabhupad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj told. That is good for everybody, but the question is how many percent of people follow the proper conception and practise Krishna consciousness properly? That is the problem. Actually, some people among us want to use our gurudev, want to use Prabhupad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj. We use Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj's name, but we have no desire to serve our guru-parampara: we have no desire to serve them, but we only use our guru-parampara for our own interest. That is the problem.

How many percent of people are there in this world who, like you, have no personal interest, who are of disinterested nature? Nobody. It is very sad in this Age of Kali... But I am very happy with your spiritual life. I am happy that you are maintaining your spiritual life properly. That is my happiness.

As I have been telling recently, the main problem is that everybody is becoming a devotee of Krishna (Krishna-bhakta) now, but no one wants to be a servant of devotees. Krishna Himself said, 'Those who say that they are My devotees are not My devotees,' but who follows this? Everybody becomes a devotee of Krishna, but no one wants to be a servant of devotees. We forget ourselves.

'I am not a brahman, not a ksatriya, not a vaisya, not a sudra; neither am I a brahmachari, a householder, a vanaprastha or a sannyasi. I identify Myself as a servant of the servant of the servant of the lotus feet of Lord Sri Krishna, who is the beloved of the gopis, an ocean of nectar, eternally self-effulgent (self-manifest) and filled with the entire scope of all possible highest ecstasy.'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.13.80; Padyavali)

We are not brahmacharis (celibates), we are not sannyasis (monks), we are not ministers, we are not kings, we are not vaisyas (traders), ksatriyas (fighters), sudras (workers) or anything else – we are only servants of the servants of the servants of devotees.

'কৃষ্ণ-নিত্যদাস'—জীব তাহা ভুলি' গেল ।

'krsna-nitya-dasa'—jiva taha bhuli' gela

'The jiva soul forgot that it is an eternal servant of Krishna. Because of this mistake, illusion threw its ropes around the soul's neck.'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.22.24)

We are eternal servants of the Lord, but we forget this. That is the problem. We have already forgotten Mahaprabhu's conception. Mahaprabhu's conception is the separation pastime (vipralambha-lila, viraha-lila) – this is what Mahaprabhu wanted to taste, but we forget it...

Odds and Ends
'We live for service. We do not want to die; we want to live for more service. When our service finishes, then Krishna can take us, no problem.'

What did Gurudev keep us here for? He kept us here only to protect his temple,
to preach—for his mission.
