His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Tarakeshwar, 11 February 2019, evening, part 2
Translated from Bengali

As we said before, we must always chant the glories of Vaishnavs.

তৃণাদপি সুনীচেন তরোরিব সহিষ্ণুনা ।
অমানিনা মানদেন কীর্ত্তনীয়ঃ সদা হরিঃ ॥

trnad api sunichena taror api sahisnuna
amanina manadena kirtaniyah sada harih

'One who is humbler than a blade of grass, more forbearing than a tree, who gives due honour to others without desiring it for himself, is qualified to always chant the Holy Name of Krishna.'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 3.6.239)

We must be humbler than a blade of grass, more tolerant than a tree, and we must give honour to others.

The problem is that we all, who are living in this world, have forgotten the Lord. We are always busy thinking about food, clothes and about going out to have fun. This is what we always think about. The people of this world cannot understand this. So many people have been to Nabadwip, so many people come even here, in Tarakeswar, but how many of them have actually come to this line? How many people are genuinely practising Krishna consciousness? Only a handful of people actually follow the rules and regulations and can properly take part in Govinda's service.

Gurudev is very merciful, very kind. Gurudev takes that which is eternal (nitya-vastu) – he takes lowly, fallen jiva souls who have forgotten the Lord – and uses them in the Lord's service. Such gurus are close associates of the Lord.

tava nija-jana kona mahajane
pathaiya dile tumi
(ek bar) daya kari' more patita dekhiya
kahila amare giya
ohe dina-jana suna bhala katha
ullasita ha'be hiya
tomare tarite sri krsna-chaitanya
navadvipe avatara

'You have sent a great soul, Your associate (to rescue me). Seeing me so fallen and being merciful, he came to me and said, "O humble soul, listen to this wonderful message and your heart will rejoice. Sri Krishna Chaitanya has appeared in Nabadwip to deliver you."'

(Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

To rescue you, Sri Krishna Chaitanya appeared in Nabadwip. We must always live understanding these things.

We should understand that we must leave everything up to the Lord:

মারবি রাখবি যো ইচ্ছা তোহারা ।
নিত্যদাস প্রতি তুয়া অধিকারা ॥

marabi rakhabi yo ichchha tohara
nitya-dase prati tuya adhikara

'You may kill me or protect me as You wish. You have full authority over Your eternal servant.'

(Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

If He kills, He will kill; and if He saves, He will save. Everything happens by His will. The sun gives light by His will, the wind blows by His will, by His will fire gives heat, and so on. Everything happens by His will. If it is His wish that you die, nothing can save you. But the difficulty is that we live forgetting about Him. We must not be like that. We must always remember the Lord, we must always (eternally) chant the Holy Name and serve the Lord. Cooking, washing the dishes, wiping the temple, making garlands, etc. is also service to the Lord. Everything is service to the Lord, and you can utilise yourself to participate in the Lord's service.

Observing Ekadasi
'Mahaprabhu told everybody how to observe Ekadasi, and our Guru-varga also follow it. We must understand how to follow the Ekadasi day. Why do you leave your food? Not to please yourself, but to please the Lord.'

If you have material desires in your heart, you will not get happiness. You will be doing something, but happiness will not come to your mind because of these desires.
