Purifying Shelter

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Ekachakra Dham, last evening class
18 February 2019, part 3

One time, Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami's brother made a festival—he brought a brahman Gunarnava Misra to do the puja, but he worshipped only Gauranga Mahaprabhu, and not Nityananda Prabhu. When Ramdas Minaketan came there, he was very upset—he thought, "What is this? He follows one person and does not follow the other person? What is the difference between Nityananda Prabhu and Gauranga Mahaprabhu? They are One but only in two bodies—one is Gauranga and one is Nityananda Prabhu, but it is the same tattva. What he is doing is ardha-kukkuti-nyaya (half-hen logic). I am very sad to see He is making such a big offence to Nityananda prabhu's lotus feet." Ramdas Minaketan told about it to Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami. Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami quarrelled with his brother and gave good nourishment, good prasadam and shelter to Ramdas Minaketan. That same very day Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami saw a dream—Nityananda Prabhu was standing in front of him, He said, "Come to Vrindavan at once! Do not stay with your brother, he is an offender. Come and stay Vrindavan."

Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami wrote in Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, "I have got the mercy of Nityananda Prabhu through service to His servitor, Ramdas Minaketan. By the mercy of Nityananda Prabhu I have got shelter in Vrindavan Dham."

One time, a brahman came to Mahaprabhu and complained about Nityananda Prabhu, "I cannot tolerate His character! What is He doing? Sometimes He is angry, sometimes He wears different clothes, sometimes He eats in different houses, sometimes He visits different houses, sometimes He wears saffron clothes, sometimes He wears earrings and bangles. What is this?"

We cannot do that. We look at what Nityananda Prabhu does, but He is avadhut, He can do anything. What does 'avadhut' mean? 'Avadhut' is one who purifies dirty things. We sometimes pretend to be Nityananda Prabhu—we follow Nityananda Prabhu's behaviour, but we do not follow His instruction. Sahajiyas (imitators) do that; they want to be Nityananda, they want to be Gauranga, Radha, Krishna, Lalita, Visakha, they want to be Narottam Das Thakur, but we are fallen souls, pasandi, and who is Narottam? How can we be Narottam? One does not become Narottam just by calling themselves Narottam—if you want to be Narottam, you must have the quality and qualification. That is the main thing.

Mahaprabhu told that brahman, "O brahman! You do not know, but even if Nityananda Prabhu catches and pulls a drunkard lady to His room, He has no fault. You cannot see any fault in Nityananda Prabhu. You do not know Nityananda Prabhu. Go and tell all Nabadwip Dham who Nityananda Prabhu is. Whatever He does, even if He does wrong, He is avadhut and even Brahma always worships Him." Hearing Mahaprabhu's words, the brahman was very happy.

Nityananda Prabhu purifies everything. That is why we always pray to Him. Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj wrote Nityananda-dvadasakam, you can read it and see how much Nityananda Prabhu is glorified there.

Before starting to take disciples, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj came here to Sri Ekachakra Dham, the birthplace of Nityananda Prabhu, and every year after that he would send some money for the festival of Nityananda Prabhu's appearance. When he came here, he asked Nityananda Prabhu for His mercy, but Nityananda Prabhu sent him a message saying, "You have already got mercy from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupad and you are coming again for mercy. First you must distribute what you have got!" After that, Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj decided to start taking disciples, and he began initiating devotees.

Our Gurupadpadma, Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, also came here before he started travelling abroad. He came here for the first time in 1990 during preaching. He stayed in Kandi, about forty-five minutes from Ekachakra, on the way to Murshidabad, and we have a small centre there now. I came here in Sri Ekachakra Dham for the first time in 2004, and in 2007-2008 I started coming regularly. We bought the land here on 8 January 2008.

So many things have happened—we are here now by the mercy of Nityananda Prabhu, and we always pray to Him, "I am a fallen soul, I have no quality and qualification, I am always making offence. Please forgive my offence. Please take my service; please give me shelter at Your lotus feet." We can pray and ask Nityananda Prabhu for this.

Jay Sriman Nityananda Prabhu ki jay!

Attachment to Service or to the Self?
'They want some relation, but actually they take from the devotees more than they give. Such is this world, people always think about themselves. People do not serve properly—they come to use Gurudev, they do not come to surrender to Gurudev..'

Jaya 'guru-maharaja'
'You are endowed with inconceivable genius, affection, gravity, and magnanimity. You are a thunderbolt atop the mountain of mundane knowledge, and the conduit for divine revelation.'
জয় ‘গুরু-মহারাজ’

That is the duty of a pure disciple: the disciple will preach for their Guru,
not for their own self, their own interest.
