(1/2) Samudrasen's Trick

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Nabadwip Dham Parikrama, Day Three
19 March 2019, parikrama, part 2
Translated from Bengali

You all heard yesterday about how, when Bhagirath Maharaj was bringing the Ganges, the Ganges stopped in Nabadwip. She said, 'Supreme Lord Sri Krishna will appear here in Kali-yuga. My Lord will come here, so I want to stay here for one month.

One time, the ocean said to the Ganges, 'O Ganga! There is nobody in this world as fortunate as you are.' The Ganges flows into Gangasagar, the meeting place of the Ganges with the ocean. But when the Ganges was coming to the ocean, she stopped here in Nabadwip for one month. So, the ocean told her, 'O Ganga Devi! You are so fortunate to have stayed here and worshipped Lord Gauranga here. You know that Gaurangasundar will appear here and enjoy His pastimes.' This is written in a scripture called Bhakti-ratnakar. 'When Gaurachand later takes sannyas and leaves Nadia, He will continue staying on your shore in a hidden way. Fortunate souls will be able to see Him. Those who come to take shelter of You, Ganga, will be able to see the Lord enjoying His pastimes.' If you serve the Ganges, your offences will be removed. Because the ocean, desiring to have the darshan of Mahaprabhu's pastimes, took shelter of the Ganges, its name became Samudravati. This place is Gangasagar. When you come here, it is the same as visiting the holy place of Gangasagar. By the mercy of Sri Gurupadpadma, we have now got a temple in Gangasagar. A lot of mayavadis come there now, but they can become rescued now.

In Dvapar-yuga, there lived a king who was a devotee of Lord Krishna. His name was King Samudrasen. You know that Krishna is Pandav's friend, and Pandavs always follow and worship Krishna. One time, Bhimsen (one of the Pandavs) became proud and wanted to conquer this area. So, there started a fight between the armies of Bhima and Samudrasen. King Samudrasen was very strong and had many soldiers. He knew that if Pandavs were in any kind of trouble, Krishna would not stand and watch it – He would have to come to help His dearest friends. So, the king thought, 'If I can scare Bhima, I must easily get the darshan of Lord Krishna.' So, when Bhima saw that he was about to lose the battle, being overpowered by the arrows of the king's army, he started thinking about Lord Krishna, and Krishna came to protect him. At this time, the king could finally see the Lord. You can see how clever the king was. When King Samudrasen saw Lord Krishna, he was very happy and began to cry. He prayed to the Lord to see His Nabadwip pastimes and he got the darshan of Mahaprahbu's pastimes. After that, the Lord disappeared.

This is how King Samudrasev received the darshan of the Lord here. At that time, the Lord also told the king, 'When I come in Kali-yuga, you will stay with Me and always chant My Holy Name.'

Jay Samudrasen ki jay.
Harinam-sankirtan ki jay.
Nitai-Gaura premanande Hari bol.

Sanatan-siksa: Hero and Heroine
'Vrajendra Nandan Krishna is the best of heroes, and the best heroine is Radha Thakurani. Hearing about Krishna's qualities, one after another, brings satisfaction to the ears of the devotees.'

We are finishing our time, and the time goes very quickly, so we must realise
what is necessary for our spiritual life.
