(2/4) Esoteric Nature of Koladwip

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama, day four
20 March 2019, part 2
Translated from Bengali

We are present now in Koladwip, Kuliya Pahar.

'Pahar' means a hill, and this Koladwip is also known as Govardhan Hill, and our Kolerdanga Math is known as the Gupta Govardhan (Hidden Govardhan) temple. Our Gurudev, Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, established a temple of Gupta Govardhan within Sri Govinda Kunda. If any of you who cannot do the parikrama of Vrindavan, you can circumambulate this holy abode and get the same result as circumambulating Sri Vrindavan Dham.

You can also find the holy Deity of Varahadev, the Lord of this Koladwip island, worshipped at our temple. I do not know if the service is running properly now or not, but the Deity came to our Param Guru Maharaj (Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj) from Srila Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj's temple. At first, Srila Goswami Maharaj kept the Deity, but when the Deity came there, there were many problems at the temple, so Srila Goswami Maharaj gave the Deity of Varahadev to Srila Guru Maharaj. Lord Varahadev is the Adipati (Supreme Master) of Koladwip, He is the worshippable Deity of this island. When Varahadev's Deity came to Srila Sridhar Maharaj, the temple started growing very opulently. Varahadev's Deity must be worshipped by a brahmachari and special sweet rice must be offered every day. This is how Varahadev's Deity is served.

This is the kind of island we have come to. We are also present now at Lord Sivji Maharaj's temple. One day, Parvati Devi told him, 'Whose worship is the highest?' Lord Siva replied, 'Worship of Lord Vishnu is the highest.' Hearing this, Parvati Devi became a little sad, thinking, 'Lord Vishnu's worship is the highest, but I worship my Lord Siva...' Then, Lord Siva continued:

আরাধনানাং সর্ব্বেষাং বিষ্ণোরারাধনং পরম্ ।
তস্মাৎ পরতরং দেবি তদীয়ানাং সমর্চ্চনম্ ॥

aradhananam sarvesam visnor aradhanam param
tasmat parataram devi tadiyanam samarchanam

'Of all types of worship, the worship of Lord Vishnu is the highest, but the worship of His devotee is higher still.'

(Quoted in Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.11.31)

'Worship of Lord Vishnu is the highest, but even higher than that is worship of His devotee! It is more important to serve a devotee of Lord Vishnu.'

Offering our obeisance to Lord Siva, we pray to him as he is a great Vaishnav who can give devotion to Lord Krishna. Lord Siva was able to enter the rasa-lila of Krishna! Even Laksmi Devi has not been able to enter there to this day, but Sivji Maharaj could. You have seen in Vrindavan the temple of Gopeshwar Mahadev (Lord Siva at rasa-sthali). There is Chakleshwar Mahadev in Govardhan, Bhuteshwar Mahadev in Mathura, Asheshwar Mahadev in Nandagram, Ksetrapal Siva in Mayapur. In our temple here in Nabadwip, Gurudev also established Lord Siva's temple and he gave him the name Sada Siva Gangadhar. He also wrote his pranam-mantra. We must offer obeisances to Lord Siva. When we went to Nepal, we saw that there is Pashupatinath (the Lord of the pashupata weapon).

So, paying our obeisances here, we are then going to Paramatala, to the temple of Praudha Maya. It is not possible to speak there because of the crowds, so we will only go there to offer our obeisances to Praudha Maya (Yogamaya). We will talk about Praudha Maya in another place when we get time. She is Yogamaya, and she always serves Lord Krishna.

Happy Service Mood
'When devotees practise properly, they are always joyful with Krishna consciousness, always feel very happy with their practising life, with sravan, kirtan. You are happy in your spiritual life, so I think that your practising life is going on properly.'

Wake up, you have no time in your hand. Any time we can leave; any time we can die.
