(3/4) Vasudev's Worship of Varahadev

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Nabadwip Dham parikrama, day four
20 March 2019, part 3
Translated from Bengali

There is a brief description of Koladwip in Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur's Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya. I will read it to you:

'There is a pastime that happened in Satya-yuga here. Please listen to it. There was a young brahman called Vasudev who again and again served Lord Varahadev. He worshipped a Deity of Sri Varaha with various paraphernalia and always prayed to Lord Varahadev.'

You know from the song we sing about the ten incarnations of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

[His Divine Grace notices a devotee dozing off] You are sleeping? If Hari-katha does not enter your ears, then Maya will attack you. There is Ghum-parani (ঘুমপাড়ানী, fast asleep and snoring), Jhim-parani (ঝিমপাড়ানি, fast asleep and drooping) and Dol-dolani (দোল-দোলানি, fast asleep and rocking or jerking). These three kinds of sleep come and remove you from the service to the Lord. Listen attentively!

Krishna and Balaram are one but manifest as two. Balaram is Mul-Sankarsan, from Mul-Sankarsan come three kinds of Vishnu Garbhodakasayi Vishnu, Ksirodakasayi Vishnu and Karanodakasayi Vishnu, and from Garbhodakasayi come Vasudev, Aniruddha, Pradyumna and Sankarsan. From there also appear the ten incarnations of the Lord. We are coming from Nrisinghatala, which is an abode of Lord Nrisinghadev, who killed Hiranyakasipu. Prahlad Maharaj tolerated so much austerity, but he never said anything – he never said a word to his father. In the end, to protect Prahlad Maharaj, the Lord assumed the form of Nrisinghadev. When the Lord appeared as Varahadev, He assumed the form of a boar to kill Hiranyaksa. In this way, there is Matsya avatar, Kurma avatar, Varaha avatar, Vaman avatar, Nrisingha avatar, Baladev avatar, Buddha avatar, Parasurama avatar, Kalki avatar, Rama avatar. There are these ten incarnations of the Lord, and there is also the Supreme Personality of Godhead from whom these incarnations come.

So, 'as the brahman worshipped Lord Varahadev, he always prayed, "O Lord! Please mercifully grant Your darshan to me. May my life thereby become successful." Saying this, the brahman cried and rolled on the ground, lamenting, "The Lord does not let me see Him! My life is useless!" One day, Lord Sri Varahadev mercifully showed the brahman Himself, assuming a form of a boar (kola). The body of the Lord was decorated with various jewels, and His legs, neck, nose, mouth and eyes looked captivating. He was as tall as a mountain. Seeing this form of the Lord, the brahman kept thinking how fortunate he was! He then fell on the ground, offering his obeisance at the Lord's feet. Crying and growing excited, he began rolling on the ground. When the Lord saw the brahman's devotion, He spoke to him sweetly, saying, "O Vasudev! You are My devotee. I am very pleased with your worship. When the Age of Kali comes, I will appear in this Nabadwip and enjoy My pastimes. Please hear the gist of what I want to say. There is no other abode in all three worlds that could compare to Nabadwip. This abode, which is extremely dear to Me, exists in a hidden way."' (I told you when we were in Ganganagar that those who do a parikrama of this Nabadwip Dham will not have to be born again.) '"Scriptures agree that all possible pious holy places (Brahmavarta and others) exist here. I defeated Hiranyaksa by piercing him with My tusks at the place where Lord Brahma was holding a fire-sacrifices. That pure land is the place where I have now made My advent. When one serves Nabadwip, all holy places appear at the place of such service. Those who live in Nabadwip automatically reside in all other holy places. You are fortunate to have served Me in this Nabadwip. You will be born here during the time of Sri Gaura, and you will easily get to see His great sankirtan, beholding His supramundane form." Saying this, Lord Sri Varaha disappeared. This divine message guided the brahman in his spiritual search. Considering all scriptures, the great scholar Vasudev Mahasay then firmly understood that Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu would appear in Nadia [at the house of Jagannath Misra] in the Age of Kali (at the dusk of time) during the reign of Vaivasvata Manu. Sages and great scholars keep this truth hidden, but intelligent persons can understand their hints. Vasudev understood the meaning of the words that "when it becomes visible, it will become manifest, but now it is hidden." In great joy, the brahman started sankirtan, constantly chanting Gaura's Name within his heart. Seeing the body Lord Koladev resembling a mountain, Vasudev decided with determination that this place would be known as Koladwip Parvat (Koladwip Hill). From then on, this place has been known as Parvat (Hill).' Thus, Koladwip is known Govardhan.

This is the glory of Koladwip.

Preaching Guidance: Keen and Careful
'Prabhupad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur said that if want to make somebody a devotee, you have to shed gallons and gallons of blood. Like, if a patient is going to die and needs blood, you need to give your blood to save them.'

One day, you will leave this material body, and you do not know where you will be posted—as you sow so you reap.
