Proper Attachment to Service

It is said in the scriptures, that if you are doing the puja of the Deities and Gurudev comes to the temple at that time, you must leave the puja and come to pay obeisance to your Guru. Do you remember who did not do it, who made this offence?

There was one servitor of Nityananda Prabhu named Ramdas Minaketan. One time there was a kirtan at Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami's house, and when Ramdas Minaketan came there, the proud brahman who was doing puja showed no respect to him. The brahman made an offence. Ramdas Minaketan came to Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami, the author of Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, and said, "Krishnadas, who has your brother brought to chant kirtans and do puja?! It makes my body hair stand on end!" Then, Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami had a fight with his brother who had invited that brahman, he told him, "You did wrong! You do not like Nityananda Prabhu. You say you love Gaura, but you do not give any respect to Nitai! What is this?" Nityananda is guru-tattva. Yes, He goes to different houses, He does this, He does that, people say so many things considering Him mad, but who is able to understand Nityananda Prabhu? Later, when Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami went to sleep, Nityananda Prabhu Himself came to him in a dream saying, "O Krishnadas! Wake up, wake up! Do not stay here in Jhamatpur, come to Vrindavan!" Next morning Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami woke up and left his house for Vrindavan where he later composed Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita.

So, no matter what, when your Guru comes, you must leave everything aside. And here the situation is that I had told you I was coming at a certain time, why did not do the arati? The arati must be at half past five in the evening, so why did you not do it timely? Why did you have to sit and wait for me when I had told you I was coming later and do the kirtans, speak, etc. The main thing is the service to the Lord—you must always do it with heart and soul.
