(3/16) Meaning of Surrender (1) His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
What are the six limbs of surrender?
দৈন্য, আত্মনিবেদন, গোপ্তৃত্বে বরণ ।
dainya, atma-nivedana, goptrtve varana "Humility, self-submission, accepting the Lord as your maintainer, keeping faith that 'Krishna will certainly protect me.'" (Saranagati, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur) 'Goptrivte varan' means Krishna takes care of us. 'Atma-nivedana' means you must submit everything—your body, soul, mind, intelligence, ego, everything—at the holy lotus feet of the Lord and Gurudev. Surrender means you feel, "O Krishna! You are giving me all this pain, I do not care about it—this is Your matter. I have fallen at Your feet, do what You like with me." If you think, "How will I get out of this pain and misery?" then your miseries will never end. Many people do not suffer this world, but many suffer because they are harassed by their husband, somebody suffers because they are harassed by their wife, somebody's newlywed wife leaves them and so on. I do not know why you are all carrying all this suffering, all this burden on your shoulders. So many court cases have been filed against me, have you ever seen that I was upset about it? I do not worry about it, I do not even think about it. I do not live in pain or misery because all I know is, "Gurudev, for as long as I am alive, I will serve you. O Lord, I have submitted myself to You." "Samarpan" means "I have come to Your holy feet, do as You please. I am your sacrificial goat—whether You cut my tail or my head, that is Your matter." This is the meaning of atma-nivedan or atma-samarpan, self-surrender or self-submission. Next, "avasya raksibe Krsna" means Krishna will certainly protect us—if you take shelter in Krishna, He will certainly protect you! He is the master, and only He can protect anyone. I cannot protect myself. Krishna is the protector, so He will arrange everything. Nothing is done through me, and I cannot do anything—everything is arranged by Krishna. We went to one mill yesterday. *** Prabhu said, "No, we will not go to that mill. They do not donate anything." I told him, "So what? If somebody does not give anything, does it mean we will not go to their house or mill? No, no. I will go to that mill, and will go there again if necessary." So, we went to that mill, I spoke to the man, told him some Hari-katha, and in the end he told one of his men, "Give them a 50 kg sack of rice!" Seeing this, *** Prabhu said, "Only you could make that man donate rice." It is not me, everything is the will of Gurudev—I entered that place taking Gurudev's name. Why did we not go there before? Because they are Muslim people. So what? I went there and spoke to the man. I know Muslim religion, I know how to talk to them. We do not discriminate, "He is Hindu", "He is Muslim", "He is Christian", "He is Buddhist" and so on. It is not necessary to make such problems. Somebody worships Khoda as a Muslim, somebody worships Vishnu as a Hindu—people divided religion into different parts for their own interests, but religion is one. People also play politics with religion—somebody uses Muslim religion for politics, somebody uses Hindu religion for politics. We must not get involved into such things. Politics is a dirty work. We all have the same blood. Suppose you are admitted to a hospital and have to go for an operation. If you need blood transfusion, who is going to see if the blood they want to give you is a barber's blood, a shoemaker's blood, a Muslim man's blood or a Christian man's blood? If the blood group matches with yours, it will be mixed with your blood. When you go to heaven, all Muslim and Hindu people stay there together. When you go to prison, all Muslim and Hindu people have to stay and eat together too. Nobody is going to discriminate there or give you any special treatment. Always remember this. Do not discriminate anyone by their caste, religion or anything else.
