Be Firm His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Anarthas (unwanted elements) decrease by the mercy of Gurudev and, as a result of his association, one is able to engage in devotional practises following the prescribed rules. Just as materialists go to the office every day, or students go to school every day, in the same way it is necessary to be steady, regular in your practising life. Just as materialists run their businesses, they trade—in the same way, those who practise Krishna consciousness also have many things to do: they must regularly and strictly worship the Deities, offer arati, archan, follow all the practising procedures, chant kirtan. I have told you earlier: what pleases the Lord most? Hari-katha. The Lord loves hearing about Himself. He always wants to hear about Himself. So, when somebody speaks about Him (who sings about His and His devotees' glories and pastimes), Krishna becomes very happy with that person. We have brought many books with us. Take these books and read them. Many new holy books have been printed from our temple. You spend so much money in tea shops and on other things, but you must buy and read these books. These books are the words of Gurudev, Guru Maharaj, Srila Prabhupad. They are written very beautifully. Read them, you will get supreme benefit. Chant kirtans every morning and evening: Guru vandana, Pancha-tattva vandan, Vaishnav vandana, Nityananda vandana, Gaura vandana. Chant them strictly every day, you will get supreme benefit. If your heart becomes perverted, the words of Sri Rupa Raghunath will not enter your ears. We are attached to the material world, we are covered by the illusory environment; that is why all these talks do not and will not enter our ears. We have fallen into material bondage. All the bad things, dirty things enter our ears, but the narratives about the Lord do not enter our ears. We cannot learn or know about the Lord and we cannot follow any rules. Many say, "I cannot chant the Holy Name, so I will not chant it." They tell so many excuses (ajuhat, অজুহাত). You know what people say: people have two hands (hat, হাত), but there is one more hand, which is excuses (ajuhat, অজুহাত). They say, "I cannot do it because of this," "I cannot chant the Holy Name because of that," "Oh, I cannot take initiation because of this and that." You know, I asked once somebody, "You are sitting here doing nothing, why are you not chanting the Holy Name?" The person said, "I cannot because when I chant, my hand is paining." I said, "If you cannot do mala, then always chant loudly Hare Krishna with your mouth; chant your rounds in this way. Can you not do that?" The person kept quiet and said nothing. When it comes to gramya-katha and gossips, everyone can talk about it.
