(3/7) Do Not Lose This Pull His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Always stop gossiping—do not talk village talks, do not discuss village news.
গ্রাম্যকথা না শুনিবে, গ্রাম্যবার্ত্তা না কহিবে ।
gramya-katha na sunibe, gramya-varta na kahibe "Do not listen to village talks, do not speak about village news. Do not eat fancy food, do not wear fancy clothes. Do not expect honour to yourself and give all respect to others. Always chant the Holy Name of Krishna and serve Radha-Krishna in your mind." (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 3.6.236-237) Prajalpa (gossiping, idle talks) must always be stopped. There are six obstacles to devotion: atyahara (too much eating), prayascha (hoarding), prajalpa (talking nonsense; talking about anything else except Krishna—do not speak about anything except the Lord), niyamagraha (superficial following of the rules), laulancha (being fickle-minded), jana-sanghancha (non-devotee association). These six create obstacles on the path of devotion. There are offences to Vaishnavs (Vaishnav-aparadh), to Sri Guru (guru-aparadh), to the holy place (dhama-aparadh), to the Holy Name (Nama-aparadh) and to service (seva-aparadh). It is necessary to always take these offences seriously. You must always remember what these offences are. Otherwise, whatever service you do will be all going out through offences. Never harbour any offences within you. Otherwise everything you do will go out through offences. You may keep making offences internally, thinking that Gurudev does not know anything, but Gurudev knows everything (he is antarjyami, all-knowing)—he knows what you are doing. But Nityananda Prabhu is supremely merciful: He rescues us forgiving our faults, not considering who is lower and who is higher. Sri Gurupadpadma is also like that: he rescues us without considering who is lower and who is higher and bestows upon us the right to serve the Lord. Only Sri Guru can give us the right to serve. Oh, I have not asked you all yet: Have you got prasad properly today? [Devotees: Yes!] It was very crowded, was it not? Nityananda Prabhu can bring so many people! Devotee suddenly speaks up: It is my great fortune to have received prasad here! I am very happy! But only somebody has kicked me accidentally with their leg. I did not even understand what happened, it was very painful. [His Divine Grace chuckles.] This is Nitai's mercy. If somebody keeps their leg on your head, you must think that Nityananda Prabhu has kept His leg on your head. It means Nityananda Prabhu had put His leg on your head or body and went away. You can understand that Nityananda Prabhu was so happy that He bestowed His mercy on everyone—He has brought everyone here to hear Hari-katha... I told you yesterday that Guru Maharaj (Srila B.S. Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj), who was in Kolkata and could not come here, told me, "You are making such a big nat mandir, but where are your people for such a big nat mandir?" You can see now that the whole nat mandir is full. There was no free place left today, and devotees have cooked so many times today—they have cooked so much rice! Nobody had any idea how many people would come to take prasad. Thousands and thousands came... This is how Nityananda Prabhu's mercy was extended to everyone today. Political parties pay so much money to bring people, but all people, all devotees come here to Sri Ekachakra Dham being pulled, being attracted by Sri Nityananda Prabhu–everybody comes here to receive His mercy. I pray at the holy feet of Nityananda Prabhu that everyone may practise Krishna consciousness, so that you may feel this pull towards Nityananda Prabhu every day and that you may not fall into the bondage of the illusory environment once you return to your homes. I pray that all the thousands of people who have come here on the occasion of this festival will not again fall into the net of illusion—so that they may not again drown in illusion—when they return to their homes.
