(1/9) Result of Great Fortune

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
20 November 2020, noon, part 1
Translated from Bengali

Chant Gurudev's two kirtans, Vaishnavs' two kirtans, Nityananda's two kirtans, Gaurahari's two kirtans, and there also some Radha-Krishna's kirtans. You can chant in this way. If we can utilise ourselves in the service of our guru, Vaishnavs and the Lord, we will get the supreme benefit.

It is the Damodar month now, and there are many very beautiful kirtans that are sung during this time. You must learn the eight verses of the Siksastakam nicely, by heart.

চেতোদর্পণ-মার্জ্জনং ভব-মহাদাবাগ্নি-নির্ব্বাপণং

anandambudhi-vardhanam prati-padam purnamrtasvadanam
sarvatma-snapanam param vijayate sri-krsna-sankirtanam

'Sri Krishna-sankirtan cleanses the mirror of consciousness, extinguishes the raging forest fire of material existence, shines moonlight on the evening lotus of good fortune, is the life of the divine knowledge—the life of souls enlightened with paramour love for the Lord, expands the ocean of ecstasy, is the taste of full nectar at every moment, and soothes the entire self. May Sri Krishna-sankirtan be supremely victorious!'

পীতবরণ কলিপাবন গোরা ।

pita-varana kali-pavana gora
gaoya-i aichhana bhava-vibhora

'Golden Gora, the saviour of the Age of Kali, sings this, overwhelmed with divine love.'

(Sri Siksastakam, 1, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

prabhu tava pada-yuge mora nivedana
nahi magi deha-sukha, vidya, dhana, jana
nahi magi svarga ara moksa nahi magi
na kari prarthana kona vibhutira lagi

'O Lord, I am appealing at Your holy lotus feet—I do not pray for bodily pleasure, learning, wealth, or followers. I do not pray for heaven, I do not pray for liberation, and I do not pray for any supernatural powers.'

(Sri Siksastakam, 4, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur)

If you sing and sing this in your mind, all mental desires will go away from you. Tell to yourself in your mind, 'I do not pray for bodily pleasure, learning, wealth, or friends or followers.' I do not want any wealth – the only wealth I want is Krishna. This wealth is called transcendental love (Krishna-prema). We only want to become enriched with that. Those who have Krishna-prema can never be poor. Krishna-prema is the real substance.

A few days ago, I went to a programme in Panskura. Last year, I went for preaching and rice collection in Sabang. There are some devotee of Gurudev staying there. I went to many houses there. The car could not go there, so we walked a lot through the fields. During the whole day I attended three programmes. I started in the morning, then went house to house the whole day, and finally there were also programmes in the evening, up to ten at night. There are disciples of Gurudev in that area.

There was one devotee from that area who stayed at the temple. He was old and has already left his body. I had not been to his area for many years, but they always called me, 'When will you come?' This time I decided to come to their programme. The daughter from that family had got married into a family in Panskura, it was maybe twenty-five years ago. The parents were very poor. They went begging and somehow managed, and their daughter got married into a poor house too – they grow something in the garden and live on that. The girl called me many times, 'Gurudev, will you not come to my house?' She had four daughters, and her daughters have all got married now. So, I went to a programme at their house. How did they arrange that programme? The lady went begging house to house and got rice, dal, oil and other ingredients. When they cooked, they only used ghee. I gave a class, we chanted, they served prasad to everyone. They did so much, but they always stayed very quiet. The car could not go to their house because it is deep in a village, but the way to the village is through flower fields. I had heard that many flowers come to Howrah from Panskura, and when I went there I saw the fields are so vast that you do not even see any people around – everything is filled with flowers. They call those flowers haragouri – the large while flowers grow on tall trees, and the whole place is full of trees and flowers. The roads are narrow, so the car could not go there, but they arranged for some narrow transport to bring us to the house. Then, we made a big programme at their house. The people in that area had never heard such Hari-katha before – they had never heard about Gaurahari! There are some sahajiyas there who put on tilaks and come dressed as Vaishnavs, but the people there do not know the actual Gaudiya siddhanta. They arranged a programme for 150–300 people, and whatever rice, dal and money they had left after the programme, they brought everything to our car and give it to the temple. They said, 'We do not need to keep anything. We got it all by begging, so we do not want to keep it.' I saw their desire and eagerness to serve. The four daughters also came to the programme, they told me that they are vegetarian and want to come to this path.

So, there are some very few fortunate souls in this world who understand these things.

ব্রহ্মাণ্ড ভ্রমিতে কোন ভাগ্যবান্ জীব ।
গুরু-কৃষ্ণ-প্রসাদে পায় ভক্তিলতা-বীজ ॥

brahmanda bhramite kona bhagyavan jiva
guru-krsna-prasade paya bhakti-lata-bija

'Having travelled throughout the universe, some fortunate souls receive the seed of the devotional creeper by the mercy of Sri Guru, who is non-different from Krishna.'

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 2.19.151)

Nobody can practise Krishna consciousness without being a fortunate soul. There are so many people in this world, but they do not want to understand these things. They always live amidst their ego and pride – people are proud of their wealth, knowledge, beauty, friends, good qualities and so on...
