The Lord says, 'I have created Maya, and I use her for My purpose.' What is Maya's duty? You are eating yourself, feeding others, doing this, doing that, enjoying – this is all done through Maya. You are doing everything in this world as servants of Maya. But when you serve the Lord, Maya Devi will run away from you. You can ask also: if somebody chants the Holy Name, worships the Lord at the home, does it mean that they do not eat and feed others at home? They do – they take prasad. Do you think there is any lack of food or anything else for those who worship the Lord? You can see these girls and boys sitting here who have been vegetarian since their birth, since their mothers' wombs: they chant the Holy Name, fast on ekadasi and seve the Lord. You should learn from them.

Think about it. These things are also explained in the scriptures. Do you know the meaning of the word 'mamsa' (meat)? It means 'mam' (I) plus 'sa' (he). Everybody eats each others. There is a Newton law that says that every action has an equal and opposite reaction: accordingly, if you kill somebody in this world, it will kill you in a future life. Do you know how cows were created? 330,000,000 demigods reside within a cow. Not only that, cows (gabhi) were created in Vrindavan from the body of Supreme Lord Sri Krishna, and now they are scattered all over the world. But nowadays even brahmans eat meat, including cows' meat. Do you know who Kali-yuga brahmans are? Those who killed cows and brahmans in the previous ages are born as brahmans in the Age of Kali. This is written in the scriptures (Padma Purana).

That is why I am telling you: give up killing jiva souls. In this world, the culture is such that you will hear people say everywhere that if you do not eat meat and fish, you will live a shorter life, you will have health issues, and so on. But my Gurudev and many Guru Maharajs of previous times lived a very long life. They lived their whole life as vegetarians. I have also not eaten any meat or fish, not even once, for thirty-five years, and I have not had any problems. As you know, I walk very fast; nobody can keep up with me. You can bring any sixty-two-year-old meat-eater and see if they can walk together with me or not. And I have been a diabetic for twenty years. They cannot stay with me even a day – they say, 'I had better run for my life from here!' I am always on the run, twenty-four hours a day – I sleep three hours a day and engage in all kinds of tasks the rest of the time. But now sannyasis eat and have to sleep in the daytime. If you ask them why they need to sleep, they say, 'Oh, I need to digest the rice!' I have never slept in the daytime, not even in my previous life (before I came to the temple). At night, I would eat at nine or ten o'clock and then lie in bed or sit at the desk and study until eleven–twelve at night. But now boys and girls do not even touch books – they are always in their mobile phones. They do not want to read books. That is why Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Maharaj told me once, 'You print so many books, but these books will later be used to wrap jhalmuri [street snack].' That is why I always tell you to preach about books, to distribute books and to read books. People buy Gita, but they do not read it – instead, they offer Tulasi leaves and water to Gita and make it rot.

It is necessary to study and to practise Krishna consciousness. Come to this line. If you come to this line, you will come to the essence, to the root conception. You have given your word to the Lord, and you must keep your word.

You are all children of nectar, so come back to your home. This house is not your home. Does any of you want your family members to be born as goats, cows and sheep? Nobody wants it, but you will have to be born in those lower species: as you sow, so you reap. The Lord says, 'I have given you a mouth so that you can speak about Me. I have given you ears so that you can hear about Me. I have given you eyes so that you can have the darshan of My Deity. I have given you legs so that you can circumambulate My holy abode. You have misused everything, so go and take birth as a pig! You can eat, sleep and pass stool as a pig!'

That is why I am asking everyone to please practise Krishna consciousness.

Very few people will come to practise Krishna consciousness. The duration of Kali-yuga is 432,000, and only about 5,500 years have passed so far. Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur said that people in this world will not come to chant the Holy Name, but you must not feel frustrated in your spiritual life. Go to people again and again – if somebody says, 'Do not come to my house!' go to that house ten times more, twenty times more. Go again and again. Bring books to people. They can beat you, they can chase you away, but you must go to such people even more. They are all my children, so send them to me! Send them to the Lord!

People keep coming and going, living their material lives. Even cows and pigs have families. You mostly have one–two children, not more, but pigs have so many children – they give birth to ten children every year. Cats and dogs also have five and more children every year. And we too live a family life like that. We have fallen in this material life, but if you want to save yourself from this life, come to the Lord.

We are all children of nectar, we come from the Lord, so you are all my relatives. You may ask, 'How so?' You are the Lord's sons and daughters, and I am also the Lord's son, so we are all relatives, we belong to the same family. The problem is that we forget our relationship. You know, when you do not visit your relatives regularly, if you do not talk and meet with them from time to time, you eventually become distant and lose touch. You are all staying here, and I am in Nabadwip or Kolkata, and not to grow distant from each other, you should read our books. If you read these books, you can reach the Lord and you will not have to suffer from birth, death, old age and disease in this world anymore – you will not have to be born as dogs, goats, sheep and cats.

We have got this human birth having crossed 8,400,000 species. We have got the highest birth, and none of us wants to go back to all those species again. We all want promotion, not demotion. This girl here is studying for B.A. now, do you think she wants to go back to her previous class and take the maturation exams? We all want to go forward, to get promotion. We do not want to fall down and degrade. A step back from a human birth is a birth as a monkey and then a cow. Do you understand what I am saying?

I will not take more of your time. The bhoga has been offered, so it is time to take prasad.
