Today is the last day of the year, is it not? After twelve o'clock at night, we will enter 2021. Coronavirus will finish in 2021. What do you say? You know, at Park Street in Kolkata, people will be burning lights, doing fireworks, drinking and dancing the whole night. They will say, '2020 is going away, and next coming year will be good.' And what do sadhus do? They chant kirtan the whole night. Shall we chant the whole night? What do you say? We can chant through midnight until one o'clock. I sleep late anyway. Or will you get hungry again if you stay up? [Devotees laugh.] Come and let us chant kirtan here after evening prasad.

Anyway, tomorrow is 1 January, Gurudev's holy appearance day. It has manifest this time on a very nice day (on the New Year's day). If you ever come to Kolkata on this day, you will see people making firework displays, burning lights, all city will be busting with noise. But we will chant the Holy Name. Even if there is only one sadhu, only one devotee, that devotee can rescue all fourteen worlds, the entire universe...

মূকং করোতি বাচালং পঙ্গুং লঙ্ঘয়তে গিরিম্ ।
যৎকৃপা তমহং বন্দে শ্রীগুরুং দীনতারণম্ ॥

mukam karoti vachalam pangum langhayate girim
yat krpa tam aham vande sri-gurum dina-taranam

'The dumb can speak, the lame can climb a hill—all it takes is mercy from Gurudev."

First, I am offering my full obeisance at the lotus feet of my Divine Master Om Vishnupad Jagad-guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, begging him for his causeless mercy and aspiring to serve him; after that, I am offering my full obeisance to all the assembled guru-varga, all my godbrothers, to all the listeners, to all the motherly lady devotees and all the devotees. I am offering my obeisance at your holy feet and praying for your mercy to this lowly soul.

It is not possible for a lowly, fallen soul to surpass Maya without the mercy of Vaishnavs.

মায়ারে করিয়া জয় ছাড়ান না যায় ।
সাধুর-গুরুর কৃপা বিনা না দেখি উপায় ॥

mayare kariya jaya chhadana na yaya
sadhur-gurur krpa bina na dekhi upaya

'You cannot conquer illusory environment and become released from it. I see no other way to get relief except by the mercy of saints and the guru.'

If you want to conquer the illusory world, all you need is the mercy of sadhus and the guru, then you can do it. I told you about it yesterday.

Today is the last day of the year. You have been chanting kirtan nicely. Please wake up tomorrow, on the New Year's day, in the morning early and take part in the mangala-arati nicely. Wake up, take a shower, come to the arati and then come again in the morning for the class and kirtan. All the invited Vaishnavs will start coming tomorrow from ten o'clock.

[Clamour among ladies] Mothers, please do not speak. You have been chanting kirtan just now, then why are other talks now coming to your mouths? You must listen to Hari-katha. I have told you that it is necessary to listen to Hari-katha with your heart. If you listen to Hari-katha, you will get supreme benefit. [To the pujari: Offer the bhoga at 13:30 today.] Therefore, it is my prayer to you all that you may spend this day in an auspicious way, and when the new year comes, may you live your lives in a clean, nice way. I pray for this to the Lord and Gurudev. The festival in honour of Gurudev's holy appearance has come, so may all obstacles and hurdles in your life go away. May the Lord rescue you from all danger, and may you all, getting relief from all suffering and pain, always think about the Lord and Vaishnavs.
