মূকং করোতি বাচালং পঙ্গুং লঙ্ঘয়তে গিরিম্ ।
যৎকৃপা তমহং বন্দে শ্রীগুরুং দীনতারণম্ ॥

mukam karoti vachalam pangum langhayate girim
yat krpa tam aham vande sri-gurum dina-taranam

‘The dumb can speak, the lame can climb a hill – all it takes is mercy from gurudev.’

First, I am offering my full obeisance at the reddish soles of the lotus feet of my Divine Master Om Vishnupad Jagad-Guru Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, begging him for his causeless mercy and aspiring to serve him; after that, I am offering my full obeisance to all assembled guru-varga, godbrothers, to all the listeners, to all the motherly lady devotees, all the devotees, sannyasis and brahmacharis. I am offering my obeisance at your holy feet, praying for your mercy to this lowly soul.

A bad day is a day without Hari-katha. Therefore, today is our good day because we have got an opportunity to listen to and to speak some Hari-katha (to listen and speak about the Lord) today. You are present here at this auspicious assembly, eager to hear about the Lord. Until now, you have been listening to some kirtans, and now please listen to the narratives about the Lord (Bhagavat-katha, Hari-katha). I have only one prayer to you all. I want to ask you for one thing: please give me your minds, hearts, souls, everything for some time today, submit everything to the Lord, to be able to hear Hari-katha.

At the beginning of our meeting, I told you about our identity. We are souls (atma) – we all come from the Lord, and we must all come back to the Lord. Back to God, back to home. This human birth is very beautiful. You can get parents, friends and relatives in every single birth, but it is not in every birth that you can get a bona fide guru. Therefore, we have got this precious human body in the Age of Kali, and if we can surrender to a bona fide guru and practise Krishna consciousness, we will get the highest benefit.

The Lord personally came to us in this Age of Kali in the form of a guru – He came as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu – and distributed the Holy Name in this world. We must take advantage of this opportunity and take good, saintly association. This opportunity does not come all the time, but we must spend every day, every moment of our lives in holy association, in Hari-katha. It is said in the scriptures, ‘Prana achhe yara, sei hetu prachara (প্রাণ আছে যার সেই হেতু প্রচার): you must preach for as long as you are alive.’ When the Lord takes this life away or takes your mouths away, you will not be able to speak about the Lord. If you get another birth, you may be able to use your mouths – you may be able to call out to your mothers and fathers, but you may not be able to utter Hare Krishna anymore. We have got this birth now, and we can chant the Holy Name of the Lord.

সাধুসঙ্গে কৃষ্ণনামে—এই মাত্র চাই ।
সংসার জিনিতে আর কোন বস্তু নাই ॥

sadhu-sange krsna-nama—ei matra chai
samsara jinite ara kona vastu nai

‘I desire only to chant the Name of Krishna in the association of sadhus. There is no other way to conquer this material world.’
