(3/16) Full Service Sway
His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Because Laksman was a younger brother, He could not say anything against His brother’s word. When Ramachandra agreed to live in the forest to make sure His father kept his word, Laksman agreed, ‘All right, I will go to live in exile, too.’ He could not stay at home. He went with Ramachandra to serve His elder brother. Sita Devi also said nothing. She thought, ‘If Ramachandra goes to live in exile, what will I do here at home? I will go with Him.’ Laksman could not contradict His brother in anything. When Ramachandra made Sita Devi go through the test of fire and exiled her into the forest, it was necessary for the upkeep of moral rules, but Laksman did not like it at all. But because Ramachandra was elder, Laksman could not object. But in Dvapar-yuga and Kali-yuga, Laksman became an elder brother Himself (Balaram and Nitai, respectively). Because He was elder this time, He could even slap Krishna! One day, Gopal complained to His mother, ‘Mother, do you know what Brother did? He has hit Me today!’ It is said that Balaram serves Krishna with ten bodies, just as Nityananda Prabhu serves Gauranga with ten bodies. He serves the Lord as His pillow (balisa), shoes (paduka), peacock fan (mayura pakha), bed (sayana), carrier (avahana), house (grha), umbrella (chhatra), garments (vastra), ornaments (bhusana) and seat (asana). So, when Balaram heard that Krishna had complained to His mother, He took Krishna aside to have a word with Him. Grabbing Him by the shoulders, Balaram started shaking Him, ‘What do You think?! Do You think Your mother loves You more than I do?! Your mother leaves You and goes to do her chores! When You get into trouble with demons and others, who comes to Your rescue?!’ Gopal started to cry. Such was the relationship between Krishna and Balaram when Balaram was elder. Here also, Nityananda Prabhu is elder than Mahaprabhu. When we do the parikrama of Sri Nabadwip Dham, we first come to the temple of Gaura-Nityananda. When Mahaprabhu sensed who had come, He sent all the devotees to find that person, saying, ‘Listen, a great personality has come to Mayapur Dham. Go and find Him!’ Nobody could find Him. Who found Him in the end? Mahaprabhu Himself. He came straight to the house of Sri Nandan Acharya and found Sri Nityananda Prabhu sitting there. Nityananda Prabhu is extremely esoteric and hidden – it is not so easy to find Him! Such is the glory of Sri Nandan Acharya Bhavan, the place where Gaura and Nityananda’s first meeting took place. Now there is a temple of Srila Bhakti Saranga Goswami Maharaj established at that place. Balaram and Nitai arrange to appear as elder brothers in different ages to be able to serve the Lord. This is the glory of Sri Nityananda Prabhu.
উত্তম, অধম, কিছু না করে বিচার ।
uttama, adhama, kichhu na kare vichara ‘Nityananda Prabhu does not judge who is good and who is bad: He saves anyone who falls before Him.’ (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.5.208) Nityananda Prabhu is hidden and extremely esoteric. The arati is starting now, so I will not take more time now, I will continue after the arati. Jay Srila Guru Maharaj ki jay. Actually, we have no quality or qualification to speak about the glories of Sri Nityananda Prabhu. Trying to describe His glories, Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami says:
জগাই মাধাই হৈতে মুঞি সে পাপিষ্ঠ ।
jagai madhai haite muni se papistha ‘I am more sinful than Jagai and Madhai and lower than worms in stool.’
মোর নাম শুনে যেই তার পুণ্য ক্ষয়
mora nama sune yei tara punya ksaya ‘If anyone hears my name, they lose all auspiciousness. If anyone takes my name, they commit a sin.’ (Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, 1.5.205–206) If you make an offence at Sriman Nityananda Prabhu’s lotus feet, who will save you? If you make an offence to the Lord, gurus and Vaishnavs can take care of you, but if you make an offence at the holy feet of your guru and Vaishnavs (at the holy feet of those who can protect you from offence), then who is there in this world to save you? We must always remember this. Jay Srila Guru Maharaj ki jay. Come, let us go to the arati now.
