Kali Yuga Brahmans

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Ekachakra Dham, evening class, 26 February 2021
Translated from Bengali, part 10

[A devotee asks a question.]

Not only in our age. Even before, those who killed cows and brahmans in previous ages—in Satya-yuga, Treta-yuga, Dvapar-yuga—are born as brahmans in Kali-yuga. However, if a brahman becomes a Vaishnav, then there is no question about that. Who is great, a brahman or a Vaishnav? If you have 100,000 rupees, it automatically means you have 1,000 rupees as well. So, 1,000 rupees is brahman, and 100,000 rupees is Vaishnav—it means that those who have the qualities of a Vaishnav automatically have all qualities of a brahman. Gurudev said that if a Kali-yuga brahman becomes a Vaishnav, they become exalted. Other than that, Kali-yuga brahmans live in sin—they associate with widows, they eat wrong things, etc. These things about who brahmans were before are written in the scriptures, in Gaudiya Kantha-hara, in Sri Padma Purana. However, as I have already said, if a brahman becomes a Vaishnav, then there is no such question. All our guru-varga were brahmans—our Gurudev, Param Gurudev were brahmans, but they left everything and came to this line.

[A devotee asks a question about Brahma-jnana.]

Today, brahmans do not even recite the gayatri-mantra. In previous ages, when brahmans spoke, fire would come—fire would come from their mouth! But now nothing good comes from their mouth. When they hear us speak like this, they start talking about rules and regulations. For example, if somebody dies at home, they say you must not water Tulasi Devi, you cannot come into a temple. They only take people away from the service of the Lord. If somebody dies at your home, you cannot come to a temple for one year. What did Mahaprabhu say?

কি শয়নে, কি ভোজনে, কিবা জাগরণে ।
অহর্নিশ চিন্ত কৃষ্ণ, বলহ বদনে ॥

ki sayane, ki bhojane, kiba jagarane
aharnisa chinta krsna, balaha vadane

Whether you are sleeping, eating, or resting, always chant the Name of Krishna.

(Sri Chaitanya-bhagavat, Madhya-khanda, 28.28)

ইহা হৈতে সর্ব্ব-সিদ্ধি হইবে সবার
সর্ব্বক্ষণ বল' ইথে বিধি নাহি আর

iha haite sarva-siddhi haibe sabara
sarva-ksana bala ithe vidhi nahi ara

"By doing this, you will attain success in all respects. There is no other rule but to chant it at every moment."

(Sri Chaitanya-bhagavata, Madhya-khanda, 23.78)

If somebody dies, everybody continues eating at the house, but the service to the Lord is stopped—you cannot water Tulasi Devi, you cannot worship Deities. They cook for themselves, but they cannot serve the Lord. If you see such brahmans, bring them to me—I will shave their heads and pour whey on their heads [fig., a way of public denouncement]. But they will not come—they are too proud of their brahman caste! What did Mahaprabhu say? "Ye jana Krsna bhaje sei bada chatur (যে জন কৃষ্ণ ভজে সেই বড় চতুর): those who worship Krishna are very clever."

কিবা বিপ্র, কিবা ন্যাসী, শূদ্র কেনে নয় ।
যেই কৃষ্ণতত্ত্ববেত্তা, সেই ‘গুরু’ হয় ॥

kiba vipra, kiba nyasi, sudra kene naya
yei krsna-tattva-vetta, sei 'guru' haya

"Whether one is a brahman, a sannyasi, or a sudra, regardless of what one is, one can become a spiritual master if he knows the science of Krishna."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Madhya-lila, 8.128)

যেই ভজে, সেই বড়, অভক্ত—হীন, ছার ।
কৃষ্ণভজনে নাহি জাতি-কুলাদি বিচার ॥

yei bhaje sei bada, abhakta—hina, chhara
krsna-bhajane nahi jati-kuladi-vichara

"Only a nondevotee can be considered as worthless and abominable: anyone who takes to devotional service is great—there is no consideration of class, caste or any other status for those who have taken up service to Krishna."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Antya-lila, 4.67)

Whether one is Muslim, a cow-eater or whoever, it does not matter. Even those who stay with me or go to different places with me used to eat beef. I do not eat anything, not even water, from the hands of brahmans, but I eat from their hands. Today's brahmans drink alcohol and eat meat! [Devotee: then they are the chandals (lowly meat-eaters).] This is said in the scriptures.

All right, it is nine o'clock already. I am finishing here.

[His Divine Grace sings 'Sarvasva tomara' and 'Hari Haraye Nama Krsna' and recites the Jaya Dhvani, concluding the final class at the festival in Sri Ekachakra Dham.]

Knock, Knock! (Ahvana Poem)
'Who is your friend? Your friend has come to your house as a beggar and prays to you, 'Please chant the Name of Krishna! Come with us!' Just like a beggar he comes to you, but you cannot recognise him.'

Sri Sri Damodarastakam
'O Lord, although You are able to give all kinds of benedictions, I do not pray to you for the boon of impersonal liberation, nor the highest liberation of eternal life in Vaikuntha, nor any other boon [which may be obtained by executing the nine processes of bhakti]. O Lord, I simply wish that this form of Yours as Bala Gopala in Vrndavana may ever be manifest in my heart, for what is the use to me of any other boon besides this?'

Why are we not getting energy? Because we waste our energy on other things, for that
we cannot get a chance, we cannot get energy to chant the Holy Name.
