I have remembered one story that Srila Gurudev told me.

The name of Srila Prabhupad’s guru is Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj. His photograph on the altar is next to Srila Prabhupad’s. When Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj came to Nabadwip from Vrindavan, people thought he was like a madman – nobody could recognise who he was. But when people threw stones at him, he would say, ‘Do not be naughty, Gopal! Stop pestering me or I will tell Mother Yasoda!’

Where did this Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj sleep? In a public toilet. Somebody asked him, ‘Babaji Maharaj, how can you stay here? Are you not getting the stench?’ To this, Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj replied, ‘This smell can be tolerated, but it is very difficult to tolerate the stench of materialists (of those who live by enjoying the material world).’

When Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj was alive, nobody came to him or asked how he was, nobody cared – only Srila Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur would come to visit him and later persuaded him to stay at Svananda Sukhada Kunja. But when Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj eventually left his body, all the babajis started crying, ‘This is my gurudev!’, ‘This is my gurudev!’ They wanted to take his body, make his samadhi and earn money through that. When Srila Prabhupad got the news that Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj had left his body, he came to him with Sri Kunja Babu (later, he took sannyas and his name became Srila Bhakti Vilas Tirtha Maharaj). Srila Prabhupad declared, ‘None of you is a disciple of Babaji Maharaj! It is all lies! You all mix with women.’ There was a policeman at the place, and he asked Prabhupad, ‘How do you know that they mix with women?’ Srila Prabhupad explained, ‘I am a strict brahmachari, so nobody can tell a lie in front of me.’ Then, Prabhupad told the assembled babajis, ‘Tell me who of you has not mixed with a woman for six months?’, then, ‘Who of you has not mixed with a woman for three months?’, then, ‘Who of you has not mixed with a woman for one month?’, then, ‘Who of you has not mixed with a woman for three days?’ and finally, ‘Who of you has not mixed with a woman since last night?’ (Even if you think about a woman, it is also considered association with a woman.) One by one, everyone dispersed. Then, Srila Prabhupad took Srila Gaura Kishor Das Babaji Maharaj’s body and brought it to Mayapur…
