হা হা স্বরূপ সনাতন রূপ রঘুনাথ ।
ভট্টযুগ শ্রীজীব হা প্রভু লোকনাথ ॥৬॥

ha ha svarupa sanatana rupa raghunatha
bhatta-yuga sri-jiva ha prabhu lokanatha [6]

‘O Svarup, Sanatan, Rupa, Raghunath, Raghunath Bhatta, Gopal Bhatta and Sri Jiva! O Lokanath Prabhu!’

Before Mahaprabhu sent Srila Sanatan Goswami and Srila Rupa Goswami to Vrindavan, He went to Ramkeli in Malda to collect His associate friends.

Mahaprabhu is a combined form of Sri Sri Radha-Krishna. As you know, Krishna’s closest associates are gopis, sakhis and manjaris. Gopis are a little older (for example, Mother Yasoda); sakhis are Lalita, Visakha and others, they are about the same age as Srimati Radharani; and manjaris are nine–ten-year-old girls. When Radharani experiences separation, only Rupa Manjari, Lavanga Manjari, Guna Manjari, Nayana Manjari – the manjaris know what this mood of separation is – stay with Her at that time.

So, Mahaprabhu comes together with His associates:

শ্রীকৃষ্ণচৈতন্য প্রভু জীবে দয়া করি’ ।
স্বপার্ষদ স্বীয় ধাম সহ অবতরি ॥

sri-krsna-chaitanya prabhu jive daya kari’
svaparsada sviya dhama saha avatari

‘Bestowing mercy on jiva souls, Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu descends with His associates and abode.’

All the associates who participate in Krishna’s pastimes in Dvapar-yuga come to this world together with Mahaprabhu in this Kali-yuga.

শ্রীকৃষ্ণচৈতন্য প্রভু নিত্যানন্দ ।
শ্রীঅদ্বৈত গদাধর শ্রীবাসাদি গৌরভক্তবৃন্দ ॥

sri-krishna-chaitanya prabhu nityananda
sri-advaita gadadhara srivasadi gaura-bhakta-vrinda

‘Pancha-tattva: Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Nityananda Prabhu, Sri Advaita, Gadadhar and all other devotees of Gaura headed by Srivas.’

জয় রূপ সনাতন ভট্ট রঘুনাথ ।
শ্রীজীব গোপালভট্ট দাস রঘুনাথ ॥

jaya rupa sanatana bhatta raghunatha
sri-jiva gopala-bhatta dasa raghunatha

‘All glory to Sri Rupa, Sanatan, Raghunath Bhatta, Sri Jiva, Gopal Bhatta and Raghunath Das!’

There are also many others. There is Srila Narottam Das Thakur, Ramachandra Kaviraj, Lokanath Goswami and many others. All of them come to this world to preach about Mahaprabhu. In the case of Srila Rupa Goswami and Srila Sanatan Goswami, Mahaprabhu Himself went to Ramkeli, Malda. He roamed and searched, ‘Where are My own? Where are My dearest associates?’ In the meantime, Srila Rupa Goswami and Srila Sanatan Goswami, known as Dabir Khas and Sakar Mallik, had been working for a Muslim emperor Hussein Shah as chief ministers, but Mahaprabhu rescued them. He met with them and took them to Vrindavan to preach about the Lord, but they preached about Mahaprabhu. Srila Sanatan Goswami was first to install Mahaprabhu’s Deity in Vrindavan. After that, Srila Jiva Goswami came, Srila Raghunath Das Goswami came, and they all preached Mahaprabhu’s message in this world. It is said:

যদি গৌর না হ’ত, তবে কি হইত,
কেমনে ধরিতাম দে ।
রাধার মহিমা, প্রম-রসসীমা,
জগতে জানাত কে ? ॥

yadi gaura na ha’ta, tabe ki haita,
kemane dharitam de
radhara mahima, prema-rasa-sima,
jagate janata ke?

‘If Gaura had not come, what would have happened? How would we have lived? Who would have revealed to the world Radha’s glory and the acme of Her ecstatic divine love?’

After Mahaprabhu left, this current continued flowing in a proper and pure way up until Srila Narottam Das Thakur. After him, it had gradually become extinct and corrupted. At some point, people actually hated Vaishnav-dharma. I have been to many places, and people still often call holy temples ‘akhra’ (আখড়া), which means ‘a club’ or ‘a place for musical or sports exercises’ (in other words, a dirty place). This line had become extinct, but seeing this, Jagad-Guru Srila Prabhupad and Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur came to this world to revive it.

Before Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur became a deputy magistrate in Krishnanagar, he worked in Puri, where he was in charge of the Ratha-yatra festival. It was in Puri that he got a son by Bimala Devi’s mercy: this son’s name was at first Bimala Prasad, and later he became known as Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. He is our Param Gurudev’s gurudev. We know that Srila Prabhupad is Nayana Manjari, and Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur is Kamala Manjari. They came to this world to preach about Mahaprabhu.

দয়া কর প্রভুপাদ শ্রীগৌরপ্রকাশ ।
তব জন কৃপা মাগে এই অধম দাস ॥৮॥

(tava jana krpa mage ei adhama dasa)

‘O Srila Prabhupad, manifestation of Sri Gaura! Please be merciful to me. This lowly servant prays for your associates’ mercy.’

We pray for the mercy of this Srila Prabhupad. If this Prabhupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur had not come, this current, this line would have been lost. He came and cleared all misconceptions. At that time, there were thirteen prominent apa-sampradayas in this world (aul, baul, kartabhaja, nera, darvesh, saki, sahajiya, sakhibheki, smarta, jata-gosani, atibari, chudadhari, gauranga-nagari), and now there must be thirteen thousand different conceptions… There are so many conceptions and lines in this world now, but please leave all this – accept only Mahaprabhu’s line, which is Jagad-Guru Srila Prabhupad’s line.
