Pastime at Gadigachha His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
We will listen today mainly about the glory of Sri Madhyadwip. Each of you should take a copy of this book Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya-mukta-mala. Those who already have it do not need to buy it, but those who have not got it yet must get a copy. If you buy a holy book, you can read it the whole year and more, but when you buy material books, you will read it once-twice and that is it. You know, today I have got the biggest gift from Pujyapad Srila Jayapataka Swami Maharaj (he is Gurudev of ISKCON now) [His Divine Grace refers to some scriptures that had been presented to him by Srila Jayapataka Maharaj that day]. I have known him since 1996 when I was a brahmachari, and he has always loved me from those days. Some time ago he also sent me a full set of Srimad Bhagavatam. Just as Birhambir once stole all the holy books, all my books have also been stolen by some dacoits. Gradually, devotees are giving me some scriptures and I am very happy with that. Anyhow, there is a village called Gadigachha within Sri Godrumdwip. I want to tell you about a pastime that happened at this place. There is a forest called Kamyavan that is situated within the churasi crore, eighty-four crores, of Vrindavan parikrama. This forest is now geographically situated in Rajasthan. When they do the eighty-four crore parikrama of Vrindavan, they go there. I have told you before, "Kirtana prabhave smarana haibe (কীর্ত্তন-প্রভাবে স্মরণ হইবে): chanting (kirtan) arouses remembrance (smaran)." One day, Durvasa Muni was resting in this forest when a small demigod boy (dev-sisu) came there and cut his sikha (jata) playfully. Durvasa Muni became very angry and cursed the boy, "You shall live as a child crocodile in a canal for four ages—Satya, Treta, Dvapara, Kali!" Then, the boy began to cry and begged Durvasa Muni, "Please forgive my offence." Durvasa Muni replied, "All right, but I have already cursed you and cannot revoke it. In the age of Kali, Supreme Lord Sri Krishna will come as Gauranga Mahaprabhu distributing His own Holy Name. When you hear His Holy Name, you will get liberation and return to your previous birth." From that time on, the boy lived as a crocodile. Then, one day Mahaprabhu was walking with the devotees in the area of Gadigachha and told everyone, "Come, let us go to the house of my nephew." There was a devotee named Bhim Ghosh—he always called Mahaprabhu 'uncle' and Mahaprabhu called Bhim's mother 'Didi' (elder sister). Bhim Ghosh met Mahaprabhu and invited Him in, "Come inside, mother has kept a lot of food for you all—condensed milk, curd, paneer, butter, etc." Mahaprabhu came inside the house and sat down surrounded by the devotees, and Bhim Ghosh and his mother fed everyone all kinds of milk products. After that, Bhim Ghosh's mother asked Nimai, "How is mother (Sachi Mata)?" Nimai said she was well. Then, Mahaprabhu called everyone to go to the lake nearby. Hearing this, Bhim said, "Do not go there, uncle. There is a crocodile in that lake. Out of fear for that crocodile, even our cows do not go there to drink water." But Mahaprabhu knows everything, and He knew why He was going there. So, He said, "Nothing will happen. Come with Me." Mahaprabhu went to the lake chanting kirtan with all the devotees. Then, suddenly a small boy came out of the water and fell at Mahaprabhu's feet. Nimai asked him, "Who are you? Where have you come from?" The boy explained, "I was a demigod's child. I have been living here for four yugas, but Durvasa Muni said that Krishna would come in Kali-yuga as Gauranga, and I would hear His Name and become rescued. I can understand that You are the Supreme Lord, You are Krishna, a hidden incarnation of the Lord in this age of Kali. Please give me Your blessing so that I can return to my mother." This is the pastime that happened at Gadigachha in Sri Godrumdwip.
