Unswerving Vision

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Speaking online to the devotees in Singapore,
1 May 2021, part 5

***, how are you?

Devotee: I am entering the Singapore Military service next week...

Is it for two years?

Devotee: Yes.

How will you maintain your life? Will you not be able to come home for two years?

Devotee: No, I can, I will be at home every Saturday and Sunday.

OK, good. They are going to give you some training, aren't they?

Devotee: Yes...

And how will you maintain your food there?

Devotee: They are giving vegetarian food, but not prasadam.

That is not a problem because what can you do? That is the rule of every Singapore citizen that you have to join military service, then what can you do? And will you get any salary for that?

Devotee: Yes, they are giving a salary.

Good. You must use that salary for preaching programmes, pay with it for any expenditure of the preaching programmes. If you can use that money for the Lord, it will reduce whatever karma-phal you will get by doing that military service. Even if you have to kill some birds or animals during the training and they give you salary for that, you must use that salary for the purpose of the Lord. You can use that money for preaching, for programme or any expenses related to that, that will be good. Try to serve the Lord anyhow, then whatever reaction will come, it will not affect you otherwise that reaction will go to you. Do you understand?

Another devotee presenting one of the present devotees: Here is a devotee, she was asking the meaning of her name the other day...

OK, thank you. 'Bimala' means one who has no dirt in their heart—one who had no dirtiness, no bad things, one who always thinks good. 'Mala' means dirt, stool, and 'bi-mala' means no dirt, no stool. This is the meaning of the word. I also told you last time that Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur's previous name is Bimala Prasad because Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur and his wife Sri Bhagavati Devi went to Bimala Devi (Laksmi Devi) in Jagannath Puri and prayed to her to give them a good son. Following that, Krishna sent them a good, devotional son who was able to preach Krishna consciousness all over the world. He preached pure consciousness (suddha prachar)—pure devotion of Rupanuga live. Such was the preaching of Sripad Bimala Prasad. Later, when he took sannyas, he became known as Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur.
