Service Attachment:
"I cannot stop his service!"

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Sri Jagannath Mishra Ananda-mahotsav
Evening, 24 March 2016

You have seen how the festival went, was there any problem or want?

Many times Gurudev said in front of you all, "Vinod goes to collect, but compared to what I collected, I can never collect like him! He collects three times more rice, three times more potato from the villages." After Gurudev's disappearance, I could not go to some villages, but they still give and give even more.

Do we stay in the Math for money, for kanak, kamini, pratistha? No!

Before also, when I was making this Centenary building I spent so much money on it. When Gurudev was in America, he told me, "Complete this building." So, by his order I completed it. He was coming back in August for Srila Sridhar Maharaj's tirobhav festival (disappearance day) and I was trying to do everything very quickly. The painting had not been finished, but I wanted to show Gurudev that it had been finished, so I painted the side of the building facing the road (I tried and tried to get the other sides painted, but I could not). I thought he would come in the car and, seeing the wall painted, he would think, "Oh, the painting is finished," and he will be happy. At that time, there was so much money due in the market, and Gurudev was very upset (although I knew mentally he was happy), and to test me he said, "You are the treasurer, but I am going to withdraw you from this post!" Gurudev also said, "I will remove him from the post of the treasurer, but I cannot stop his service! His service will continue even without any money."

Then you must understand what the service mood is. Everybody—whether you are a householder, a brahmachari, a vanaprastha, or a sannyasi—must have attachment to their service.

If you have other things in your heart, if some material desire is coming to your heart, you must remove it at the root from the very beginning. This is the main thing. If you have bhukti, mukti, siddhi kami (desire for enjoyment, liberation, powers), if you want kanak, kamini, pratistha (companions, money, and position), you must finish these desires from the very beginning. Remember it.

কৃষ্ণ যদি ছুটে ভক্তে ভুক্তি মুক্তি দিয়া ।
কভু ভক্তি না দেন রাখেন লুকাইয়া ॥

krsna yadi chhute bhakte bhukti mukti diya
kabhu prema-bhakti na dena rakhena lukaiya

"If you ask Me for anything except devotion, I can give you those things—bhukti, mukti, liberation, everything—but I will hide devotion from you. You will not get devotion."

(Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita, Adi-lila, 8.18)

If in lieu of service you want liberation, enjoyment, and so on, if you want all this, you will get it, but you will forget devotion, you will forget the Lord.
