JOYOUS DAY IN SILIGURI

Deities' Pastimes (2):
"He Has Eaten It All!"

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
Siliguri, Deity installation anniversary

The Lord Himself appears out of His own mercy. Another example of this is the son of Mukunda, Raghunandan.

One day, Mukunda and his wife told their eight-year-old son, "Son, we need to go to the market today to buy some things for the Lord. I have already cooked and prepared the bhog, give it to the Lord later." Raghunandan said, "But I do not know any mantras..." "Do not worry, mantras are not necessary, just offer it to the Lord."

Later, Raghunandan went to the Lord to offer Him the bhog. He offered the food, but saw that the Lord was standing silently and did not eat it. He said to the Lord, "You are not eating? Oh, because I am a little boy You are not taking it, and when my mother gives You food every day, You take it." Then he saw a stick from a brass gong—he took it in his hand and said, "Eat or I will hit You! Eat!" Then, the Lord said, "No, no, do not hit Me. I will eat." And He began to eat. Raghunandan said, "You must eat everything! All of it!" After the Lord had eaten everything, Raghunandan took the plates back to the house.

When his parents returned home from the market, they asked him, "Raghunandan, where is our prasad?" Raghunandan replied, "Why? You cooked less today, and the Lord ate everything." "But the Lord does not eat! I offer Him bhog every day, and He has never eaten it. You must have eaten it yourself or fed it all to your friends!" "No, please believe me, I never gave it to anybody, the Lord has eaten everything."

Later in the afternoon, his mother woke up from rest and prepared some fruit and sweets. She gave it to her son saying, "Go offer it again, I will see how He eats."

Raghunandan came into the temple with the sweets and fruit and said to the Lord, "Eat!" The Lord said, "I have just eaten so much, I am not hungry!" Raghunandan's mother heard some sounds coming from the temple and wondered, "Who is he talking there to?" In the meantime, Raghunandan kept saying, "Eat, eat! Eat quickly! Otherwise mother will not believe me. She does not believe that you ate everything last time." Then the Lord took one sweet in His hand and took a bite—He bit one half and the other half was in His hand. At this time, Raghunandan mother's peeked into the temple room and saw the Lord eating—as soon as she saw it, she fainted.

So, the Lord accepts everything from His devotees.

You can remember Sachi Mata. She cooked and thought, "If my Nimai was here, He would eat it all..." and Nimai did actually come there and eat everything. Sachi Mata cooked and offered bhog to the Lord and then she saw there was nothing on the plate. She thought, "Maybe I have forgotten to offer the bhog..."

So,

ভক্তের জিনিষ প্রভু লুটিপুটি খায়
অভক্তের জিনিষ প্রভু উলটি নাহি খায়

bhakter jinish prabhu lutiputi khay
abhakter jinish prabhu ulti nahi khay

"The Lord eats anything and everything when a devotee offers it, but He does not take anything from a non-devotee."

Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhu
'I have no power to say what kind of devotion to his Guru Jiva Goswami had. Jiva Goswami's service cannot be compared to anyone's service. Whatever order he would get, he would place it on his head and do it all the time—his mind never went to any other place.'
