Follow Gurudev's Instruction to a T

His Divine Grace
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj,
Sri Nabadwip Dham, 31 March 2010, part 5

So many devotees are serving now. When Gurudev made his will in hospital, he mentioned some names from the ladies' section (Lalita Didi, Yamuna Didi, Divya Sakti Didi, Kamala Nayana Didi, and some others). Gurudev said: where will they stay? Do not kick them out—there is no ladies' ashram, so you can keep them in the temple. Gurudev wrote their names in the will, and I am thinking how much they are serving now. Before, I could not understand Yamuna. I thought she was an angry girl, but it is inconceivable how much service she is doing now after Gurudev left. I used to think, "Why does Gurudev keep this girl? What for?" But Now I understand who she is. She is not an ordinary girl. Gurudev told me many times, "You must tolerate Yamuna," but I could not understand before why he said that. She only took care of Gurudev's medical matters, but it is not so. I can see how much she has been doing since Gurudev's departure, especially during the past two days. I cannot say how much she is doing for Gurudev. Gurudev mentioned many other names also when he was in hospital and made his will.

One time, when Gurudev was in America, he called me. I was in Siliguri at that time, giving class at a big programme (it was not at our temple—our temples had not been made yet). When I saw Gurudev was calling, I stopped the lecture, saying I could not speak any more and went to answer the call.

He was going for an operation (to have part of his intestines removed), and he told me, "I am going for an operation now, I do not know if I will come back or not," and he ordered me, "I have written some will. You must take care of my devotees and you must take care of my temple." He told this to me from there.

Gurudev never thought about his health. When he was going for some operation at the Apollo hospital in Kolkata, I remember I was standing outside the ward and as Gurudev was taken to the operation theatre, lying in a stretcher and wearing a hospital gown, he passed in front of me, and I heard him singing, "Nitai-pada-kamala, koti chandra-susitala, ye chhayaya jagata judaya (নিতাই-পদকমল কোটীচন্দ্র-সুশীতল যে ছায়ায় জগত জুড়ায়): cooling like ten million moons, Nitai's lotus feet soothe the world with their shade." What is this?! If I was in a stretcher, I would be thinking, "Maybe I will die..." but Gurudev is thinking, "Nitai-pada-kamala, koti chandra-susitala, ye chhayaya jagata judaya (নিতাই-পদকমল কোটীচন্দ্র-সুশীতল যে ছায়ায় জগত জুড়ায়): cooling like ten million moons, Nitai's lotus feet soothe the world with their shade." He is lying in a stretcher, dressed in his operation gown and going for an operation, and he is singing this. His thinking is a very high conception!

There is one lady living nearby. Srila Sridhar Maharaj gave her 1400 sq.ft. (two kottah) land beside our Sevak Bhavan because her family had served the temple many times. He told them, "All right, that land is vacant, you can make a house and stay there." Later, that family started always coming to me, asking to make registration. Srila Sridhar Maharaj gave them two kottah, and they had acquired four more kottah, so they wanted to register the land in their name. They did some service at the temple, and would always come to me, and cried, cried, and cried, begging to make the registration. Gurudev told me that it was not necessary to make registration ("What for?")—they are staying there, and they can continue staying. Somehow, I forgot what Gurudev told me, and when they kept coming to me and kept crying, I felt very sorry for them, so I let them have the land registered in their name because they had given 20,000 rupees registration fee to Gurudev. Now, that family is against me and against Gurudev. Now that the registration is finished, they are fighting against us. Do you see? Gurudev's vision is so high—he told me in 2006 not to sign the registration deed. Do you understand how much Gurudev knows! That time I understood it.

This is what happens if you miss just one word. That is why we must follow Gurudev's instruction to a T. It is necessary to do that, and this is our hope. If we cannot follow Gurudev's instruction, then there is no hope for our spiritual life. Even if you can lose something, you must still follow Gurudev's instruction. Actually, we do not think we can lose anything, it is not necessary to think like this—if you follow Gurudev's instruction, you will see that later you will get a good result. Big things are waiting for you. You must throw away all these small things, and then big things, a big result will come to you. Therefore, we must follow Gurudev instruction and Gurudev's will.

There are many devotees here from abroad, and many devotees are also calling now. Yesterday, Ananta Krishna Prabhu from Hungary called. His computer was broken or something happened, and he got the news only yesterday. He is shocked and cannot talk. Pusta Krishna Prabhu (USA) also called yesterday, he has got an email. Purujit Prabhu (Venezeula) also called. This is what a devotee is—Purujit Prabhu's brother, Nimai Chandra Prabhu, is in hospital now, but he did not ask anything about his brother, he is only thinking about Gurudev. This is devotional activities, and this is the main thing for us in our life.

Anything for Guru's Service
You can do anything for the service to your Guru, but for your own self you cannot do any sinful work; but we do just the opposite: for our own happiness we are not afraid to do any sinful work, and we are always afraid to do something for Gurudev.

Sri Sri Damodarastakam
'To the Supreme Lord, whose form is the embodiment of eternal existence, knowledge, and bliss, whose shark-shaped earrings are swinging to and fro, who is beautifully shining in the divine realm of Gokula, who [due to the offence of breaking the pot of yogurt that his mother was churning into butter and then stealing the butter that was kept hanging from a swing] is quickly running from the wooden grinding mortar in fear of Mother Yasoda, but who has been caught from behind by her who ran after Him with greater speed—to that Supreme Lord, Sri Damodara, I offer my humble obeisances.'

Gurudev is ready to give his mercy, but the problem is our ego. We think we know
everything, that is why we cannot accept his mercy.
