Samsara: False and Worthless

Question: I have a question about the song "Durlabha manava-janma." It says, "Samsara samsara kari' michhe gela kala." Why is 'samsara' double here?

Double 'samsara' means many times. When we had a pig's body, we also had a big samsara—we had a big family, many children, etc. Many times, in many births we have got samsara, not only in this life; and everything has passed, everything is false and worthless. "Labha na ha-ila kichhu, ghatila janjala:" always so much janjal (austerity, problems) came...

Who got a pig's body?

—Indra.

Do you understand? Indra, the king of heaven, had to take a pig's body, and he actually asked Brahma, "If I go to heaven, will I get this kind of children?" You can see how much attachment he had. He ate the filth from the drain and stool and thought, "This food is very nice. Will I get such food in heaven?" Do you understand?

dina yaya michha kaje, nisa nidra-vase
nahi bhavi marana nikate achhe vase

My days are passed in useless work and nights are wasted on sleeping. It never occurs to me that there is death sitting next to me.

When we die, we will have to leave everything, and where will we go then? Yama is always after us. Wherever we go, we will again have to take birth, again have to die. If amidst these deaths and births, we at least once take shelter of the Lord, we can be rescued. There is no other way out...

Odds and Ends
'Every day I sing the same songs, morning and evening—what for? I can sing all songs, but I do not do that because you must practise.'

Namo namah tulasi maharani
'Siva, Sukadev, Narad, Brahma, the other demigods, and the great learned sages all circumambulate you, O Tulasi.'
নমো নমঃ তুলসী মহারাণি

You must know the meaning of the songs otherwise you will not get taste through it; when you understand the meaning, you will get the real taste, the real sweetness through it.
